Lack of merchandise?

Hi everyone! We just got back from our first trip to WDW and I was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on a subject we talked about a lot during our adventure. My fiance grew up watching everything Disney, so she was overwhelmed with the amount of merchandise that catered to the movies that she used to watch. However I didn't grow up watching that many, and have fallen in love with some of the IPs that Disney offers. My two (recent) favorites being Zootopia and Guardians of the Galaxy 2. We explored all of the shops that we came across in every park, but did not see more than 3 Zootopia items and a small shelf of Guardians merchandise in Groot's area of Hollywood Studios.

Did we happen to miss a big section, or did Disney not go all-in on these IPs?

It seems there are a lot of movies not well represented by merch. Even Moana stuff was scarce when we were there.

It was a little disappointing that most stores carry very similar items as well.

I had a friend that wanted something "Dug" from the movie UP. Nada. Nothing. Couldn't find anything centered around Dug and I thought he was a pretty popular character. My son and I had our photo made with Russel at AK last summer.

I feel like there's a superhero store in Disney Springs? (or there used to be).

As far as other properties are concerned, considering how much square footage of my local Disney store is focused on Frozen I'm not surprised that other properties are pushed out of the merchandising game. (Moana still has a good amount of square footage, but Frozen easily doubles it...sometimes I wonder why they don't just call it the Frozen store)

I don’t know when she looked but there were plush Dugs with e-collars on just this weekend.

Superhero headquarters at Disney springs has a larger marvel selection.

DD16 is a huge Black Widow fan and has griped since the first Avengers release about the lack of merchandise in the parks. We finally found a bunch on our last FL trip - not at WDW, but at the Character Warehouse at the Orlando outlets.

DD9 is super into the Descendants, and we were there when it was relatively new and seemed to be running on the Disney Channel 10 times a day. Talk about a property they did NOTHING with in terms of park merchandise! Walmart has more Descendants merch than WDW.

Well there will be a Guardian of the Galaxy ride at Epcot, if you can wait few years. (I'd bet there will be more GOTG merch once that opens.)

I've seen them as recent as December 2017 at Hollywood Studios

I may have to pick him up one now even though it's been many years since he asked for it. I think it was around 2012 when I was looking for it. I kept asking CM's and they'd say they couldn't think of anywhere that had Dug merchandise.

Avengers merch is complicated by the theme park rights issue at WDW. They can't have Avengers anything in the parks (hence the store at Disney Springs). They couldn't even have the monorail with the Avengers overlay on the Epcot loop because it goes inside the park.

Merchandise is always pretty hit or miss and to-the-moment... and the classics always dominate at the Parks.

I wonder if you had been able to get out to the number of outlet and misc. Disney stores outside of the bubble, if there was more of what you were looking for? Hmmmm... one of those "off-site" trips is definitely in my future, I personally have to say! Maybe look into going there or getting someone to go there?
