Lack of A/C?

We were at WDW last week, and temps were mid 80s and (of course) very humid. I remember on past trips, we could walk into a ride, show, restaurant or store and immediately cool down in the chilly A/C. This trip, there were so few places that actually felt cool when we walked into them-and many people we spoke to during our trip, had the same observation. It was often on the warmer side and even sometimes felt warm and clammy in many rides, stores and restaurants.

Has Disney decided to skimp on the A/C lately, or are we all just growing less tough in our collective old age? ;)

I'm not sure if they are skimping on the A/C but it has gotten worse in the last couple of years. One of the things I think Universal has the upper hand on.

I didn't notice it during my trip, and it was hot and humid. And very wet. I'm actually glad you don't go from hot as can be to freezing cold. It makes me feel ill.

I have had this same feeling on IASW over the last couple of years. Used to be a nice ice box but now sometimes more of that clammy feeling you describe. I never know if it’s just me making it up with revisionist history memory or if there’s some validity to it! :-)

Someone recently posted on the POP thread that they have been doing this in that hotel as well. They stated that if you put the A/C too low (lower than Disney wants) the A/C will just shut off.

Meaning it maintains the lowest temperature I assume.

Our last August trip was the first time I didn't get sick after a summer trip as I am very susceptible to temperature change. I carry a sweater with me even in August and still used it for virtually every indoor portion of our trip. I for one am thrilled that they've turned down the AC considerably.

So true! We stayed at the All Star Resort in October and the room thermostat can't be set below a certain temp. When it hits that temp the air flow will turn off. I was comfortable; however, my wife was complaining the whole time. This is our first experience with the temperature regulator. Stayed a week in April, May and June when we could get as much chill as we wanted.

We were at WDW in mid-October. It was hot. The AC was noticeably less chilly than past years. We noticed it everywhere.

Right there with you. I don’t get sick but feel uncomfortable going from hot outside to ice box inside. I notice lots of places in warm weather areas really crank the AC. I don’t like carrying around a sweater. And now that it’s mentioned here, I don’t remember being uncomfortable at Disney in May so it was probably hotter inside than in years past. It’s a welcomed change for me.

We went in late August and didn’t notice any skimping on AC either in the parks or in our resort.

I didn’t notice. The
Only places I notice “less AC” are places where they leave the doors wide open letting hot air and hot bodies come in all day. But even those places are far more comfortable that the outside.

I went this past July and again in October and this year I didn't notice anything. But last year we were there in June and it was miserable! I enjoy cooling off on rides, too, and there was no relief. The worst was the People Mover. I love that ride, typically go on it several times every MK day. I went on it once that trip. I like it because it's relaxing and cools me off just enough to last a while longer. Never happened that trip. We would get inside, and it was just as bad as outside. Nasty. And it was similar everywhere. I thought it was just me, but there was a discussion on here last summer about it, too.

We were there a couple of weeks ago. Interior spaces were definitely not 'fully' air-conditioned - even indoor theaters that are normally kept pretty cool in the summer.

I told my husband more than a few times over those November days, how good Disney had become at creating 'completely airless spaces' in the past couple of years. I understand trying to cut-down on A/C outside of the dog-days of summer. But, please put in some fans for air circulation (and make sure they work - saw so many nonoperational fans on standby lines during our multiple trips this year).

One of the warmest spaces we encountered was the waiting area of the Muppet Show - which is normally freezing - and the theater itself wasn't much cooler. This used to always be a place to escape and cool off!

I never question another DISers account of their experience, you felt what you felt. That said, we were there from Nov 2 to Nov 11 and we didn't notice any difference in the AC situation with the sole exception of the waiting area for Turtle Talk. Temps were in the mid 80s except for the last day when it topped off at 75.

Thank you , thank you! We just returned from a trip last week as well and the lack of AC was driving me crazy. I was actually sweating on some of the rides because it was so darn warm! At first my hubby was saying it must be me but by the second day he was agreeing that something must be up with the AC. Even our room at the BC was way to hot and when I would return back to our room the AC would be set at 72 but when we turned it down it would never go below 69. It was such a noticeable difference when we went to the PBR at Universal after our Disney stay. Really glad someone else noticed it.
