Labor Day Weekend thoughts

Wanted to get some thoughts on my trip plans for the Half Marathon weekend over Labor Day. I'm coming from Dallas and haven't been in a few years. I generally avoid holiday weekends, but any Disneyland is better than none. I land at John Wayne at 8:23 AM Friday and leave at 5:30 PM Sunday night.

My original plan was to do California Adventure Friday morning, then Disneyland Saturday and probably Sunday also. Most likely doing one park per day tickets. But I'm thinking that because the parks will likely open at 8 AM and Disneyland usually has early entry on Saturday, I might be better off doing California Adventure on Saturday after the 10k because I could still make it by park opening.

Any thoughts are appreciated. I don't plan on my usual opening to close schedule and will probably leave the parks by 2 or 3 at the latest so I can go to the Expo Friday and rest Saturday afternoon before the half.

Also, a thought for Sunday. I grew up in Southern California and have friends there and if there are some that want to do something, I was considering Knott's for Sunday, since I might still be able to get there by their 10 AM park opening and I'd love to see the Ghost Town 75th anniversary (and online tickets are very reasonable). I know it's 6 months away still and nothing has to be decided yet. Just trying to keep myself from going crazy waiting!

I think your switching DL to Fri and DCA to Sat is a good one. Like you said you can do park opening on Sat at DCA, and it's the last weekend for the 60th celebration stuff at DL so Sat might be way more busy than Fri. Do you know where you're staying yet? That would be one thing to look into if you go to Knott's on Sun. If you're along the race route or surrounding the parks, the roads might be closed and if they're open, they'll probably be bad until 11. Last year after Tink, I was trying to get from my hotel to the parking garage so it was easy leave after some park time but the roads had just opened and it took me almost 30 minutes to get from Walnut & Ball to Katella.

Thanks for the tips about the roads. Since it's just me, I am staying at the Ramada about a mile south on Harbor. But I can see how getting past DLR could be a problem.

Was curious about this as well, but we won't be coming in until Monday early afternoon. I believe the race will be over by then, and Labor Day is busy in the parks, but I'd like to at least catch the last of the 60th celebration. Hoping Tues-Fri isn't too bad in the parks.
