My whole family is going on the Sept. 7-11, 2003 Wonder and the whole reason we booked then is because 4 of the 6 kids going will be out of school for the holiday anyway. But it just struck me -how many other parents do this for the exact same reason?! I'm not one of these people who will freak out with all the kids onboard (hello, it's Disney) but I do usually try to plan my vacations in the fall to avoid the summer rush. The whole month of Sept/2003 still has a great price including our cruise with every category stateroom still available. Are we crazy for booking during Labor Day? Who's done it?

You're not crazy at all, most kids will be back in school by then. Lots of kids are in year-round schools (mine included) and many others start school before Labor Day. You'll be traveling well after that and the number of school age kids will no doubt be less on that cruise; not too many people like their kids to miss the very beginning of the school year.

Enjoy! :)

Not only is it the beginning of the academic year but those kids who are in fall sports probably have practice anyway! In Michigan it is mandated by the legislature that there is no school the Friday of Labor Day week-end. The problem is that sports are already rocking - for instance HS football starts that week in order to get the 9 weeks in before playoffs leading up to the championship games over Thanksgiving. Although a few schools opt to play on Thursday night most still play on Friday. And the boys have practice on Monday as well. So those of us with "older" kids probably wouldn't be sailing for a wide variety of reasons! :)

Labor Day 2003 is on Sept 1st which is a Monday,my children go year-round and will be off that day.

Well, I didn't even realize Labor Day was on the 1st next year. So I have no reason to even be writing this thread. But boy is my DSiL going to be mad - that was the way I talked her into this saying her kids would only miss 4 days of school because they would be out that Monday anyway! Something tells me she will get over it when she sees the ship!
