Has anyone taken one of the LA tours that pick up from the DL area hotels? Are there any good ones? Looking to see some of the touristy sites.

I have heard good things about the Anaheim 411 tours, I haven't personally used them but am considering it for our next trip

I just asked a similar question over on another site - I'll report back what I learn. Upon some of my own research, I think that the two main companies are Gray Line and Starline. It's my understanding that the others just contract out to these major companies? I could be wrong.

Did a private tour (for 6 people) yesterday, of LA/Hollywood area with Anaheim 411 (Tom), and I can't speak more highly of him and his tour. He went above and beyond in getting us to see everything on our to-do list (including the space shuttle Endeavour, La Brea Tar pits, an unbelievably close view of the Hollywood sign, Santa Monica Pier, as well as some unexpected stops when he found out our DS aged 6 has a fondness for Charlie Chaplin - due to learning about "the olden days" at school). I would highly recommend contacting Tom.

How do we contact him? Price, length of tour and how far in advance did you book?

We did the anaheim411 Movie Star Homes & Warner Brothers VIP tour with Tom. While that may not be what you are looking for I did want to second that Tom is an excellent tour guide. Tom picks you up right at your hotel and drops you off and does the entire tour - there is no subcontracting. I didn't do a private tour. There was 8 of us on the tour including my family of 4.

Anaheim 411 tours are great. They are much more personal than the big corporate tours. I think the beach tour is a great one.

His email is tom@anaheim411.com and website is http://www.anaheim411.com/

The tour was around $72 pp (less for kids) and it went for over 9 hours (pick-up at 8:30am and drop off just before 6:00pm). We booked quite a few months ago, and were able to schedule our own tour for the places we wanted to see (not just the standard stuff that the big tour companies offer).

An alternative would be to rent a car for the day. Down Katella where Bubba Gump and Cheesecake Factory multiple car rentals.A minivan here would be way cheaper. It would be under $100 for 24 hours.

We did Hollywood sign, Warner Bros, Manns, and Santa Monica in a day.We left around 8 am returned about 6:30 pr so.

I just wanted to thank all the kind posters. I really love doing tours and am very happy to read reviews about our service. I'm not the only driver for our company and the two new drivers are equally amazing... I've spent a lot of time training them and it shows.

So, anyway, thank you, again.

And for the person who suggested renting a car - you are absolutely right. Way less expensive and a lot more freedom. If guests are comfortable doing that and driving, I suggest it.

Although, driving in LA is not like driving at home for most people...

Regardless of anyone's decision about tours or renting cars - LA and Orange County are amazing places to see. Do plenty of planning ahead of time and keep your iphone on the traffic app and you can get around. 24 hours is about what it should take you without that traffic app... LOL.

Happy planning and thank you for making my day!

We did the Beach Bus tour through Tom in 2010. It was excellent! I recommend it to everyone I talk to that is interested in seeing a beach. I know this was more of an LA discussion but I thought I'd mention another tour that Tom does since we enjoyed it soooo much!'
