LA Port to LAX?

I'm making my own travel plans for the up-comming Western Panama Canal cruise in May. Basicly I plan to rent a car one-way to Port Canaveral and then fly home from LAX.

Because of our experience with DCL and the information available on these boards, I've got everything nailed down except for getting from the port in LA to LAX and WHEN.

Some basic questions:

Where exactly is the ship docking in CA?
(You can't exactly just type "LA Port" at mapquest.com).

When is the ship expected to disembark (I'm a little confused because when you plan a flight, times are always specified based on the local time zone. But once you get onboard, everything is based on "ship time" which is always Eastern Time Zone, yet because we will be moving from one side of the country to the other, I could see where that rule may not be followed for this cruise)?

We called Disney about the return and they said that they were giving the same flight advice as Orlando- no flights before 12:00. The website says disembarkation is at 8:30, so I'm guessing it is like Port Canaveral and we will dock sometime during the night and disembark first thing a.m.. They did tell me that not having a passport could slow your disembarkation, so if you have a tight flight they suggest you get a passport. I am also renting a car in Orlando, but I think I am going to use DCL transfers in L.A. They are only $25 pp, and I just wasn't sure I'd have time to fool around with shuttling to a rental car place and getting to the airport for our 12:00 flight.

Edited to add: here's the website link to the port- I think this is right!

Thank's everyone for the information.

I was afraid that we couldn't schedule only one side of the DCL transfers because when I asked about one-way flights, I was told they only do round trips.

It's also nice to know that I need to book a flight that leaves AFTER 12:00.

And I was told by DCL to not schedule my LAX flight home for before 12:30, now that's on one of the West Coast cruises, but luckily I adhered, and we're booked on a 12:40 flight out of LAX.

one way transfers are possible wtih DCL and for this particular situation (San Pedro to LAX) I would highly recommend it!!! A taxi/shuttle won't be cheaper, and a one way car rental will be a pain and you'd have to deal with LA traffic around the airport (not recommended for someone unfamiliar with the area).

We are planning to fly out of the Long Beach, CA airport...it is way closer and less than $20 for taxi (even for a car full of people).

I am so glad I stumbled on this thread. Of course I booked my flight for 11:30 but it's out of John Wayne airport. so now I'm not sure if I should "trust" the Disney shuttle to get me there or if I'm better off time wise to rent a town car?
Even Super Shuttle offers this option and it's only like $70 so not too bad price wise.

I just wanted to note that on Disney, ship time always changes to the local times of the ports. So, we will likely be on Eastern time until we go through the Canal, then change time by an hour, then change by an hour again for one or more of the Mexico ports, but we won't actually be on Pacific time until just before we arrive in L.A.

Arrival in L.A. is listed at 8:30, and that would be PDT.
