LA/Hollywood in a day?

Would it be possible to do Hollywood, LA, and maybe a beach all in one day?

We'll be driving up from SD on Sunday. How will traffic be? Also how far is Staples center from Hollywood. Close / not?

Also about what time does it get dark? Where is a good place to see the sunset?

It is definitely possible if you leave nice and early. We just did this on Saturday but from Anaheim. We left DL at 12:00 and went straight to Sta Monica Pier. Didn't get off at the pier but went a few blocks past to PCH and parked. Went to the beach there, then to Beverly Hills. Walked around Rodeo Dr. had an ice cream then off to Hollywood. Once there, we walked along Hollywood , saw the stars, a little shopping, then drove down Sunset back to Beverly Hills where we had a nice dinner and were back at DL and in Magic Kingdom by 9:30. We were not rushed, did what we wanted and encountered no traffic which is what I think made the big difference. I would not recommend getting on the PCH for more than a few (very few) blocks because that was the only place we had any traffic.

Hollywood to Staples is pretty close. Last week we drove surface streets from near Staples to the Pantages Theatre in about 15-20 minute - and it was near rush hour time.

I definitely agree you could do LA/Hollywood in 1 day.
Darkness depends on time of year - and sunset at the beach would be nice. Lots of restaurants up and down PCH - in summer I'd say a 7:30 dinner would include sunset.
