We will be heading back to Disney this coming July taking advantage of the free dining. We have never eaten a table service meal at Mexico and looking to at the restaurant that is inside the Mexico building. Just was wondering who has eaten there and what your experience was...good or bad. Any information is greatly appreciated!! We love Mexican food and always eat at the quick service outside when we are there. TIA!!

The restaurant you mention in the title (La Cantina de San Angel) is the QS option in Mexico. The restaurant in the Mexico pavilion is San Angel Inn. The other one is La Hacienda de San Angel. I've never eaten at either TS option, but I'm following along because I'm interested in what others have to say as well.

Just to clarify, the restaurant inside the Mexico pavilion is called San Angel Inn. La Hacienda de San Angel is another TS in Mexico, but it is not inside the pavilion (confusing, I know). Generally San Angel Inn gets better reviews for atmosphere and La Hacienda de San Angel gets better reviews for food.

We've enjoyed both table service restaurants in Mexico. San Angel Inn is quite a lot of fun in the dark. Tables are very close together but once seated, we didn't have a problem with space. Of course, people could have been eating off our plates from the next table over and we wouldn't have noticed - it's that dark. We enjoyed our food, even though we couldn't see it. Fairly certain we didn't choke down a garnish by mistake.... We're heading back in May and my DDs 21 have requested it, despite swooning over the wait staff at La Hacienda when they were DDs17! Ha!

The Mexican Food most know is an Americanized Tex Mex food
The Restaurants in Mexico is more authentic Mexican food. In general it is not the burrito, taco, nachos you maybe thinking of.
We love both Mexican restaurants.

San angel inn is more central/border Mexican food which is very good. La hacienda is more Baja type of food. I like both. My wife is from the border in Texas and she prefers San Angel Inn as it reminds her more of the cooking she grew up in. Note that the chips and salsa are the same at each restaurant. I would say La Hacienda would be closer to Tex-Mex. the tables at San Angel Inn can be closer to each other.

We ate at San Angel Inn (inside the pyramid) on our last trip and it was by far the worst meal we have eaten at WDW. I mean, nobody in our family finished their meal...totally flavorless.

However, we like the QS option in Mexico.

We have eaten at both TS restaurants in the Mexico area. Years ago (like 10+) we really liked the food at San Angel Inn, but the menu changed and then we no longer liked it. When La Hacienda opened we tried that and it's been a regular stop for us ever since.

I would agree with others who said that the ambience is great at San Angel, but yes, the tables are very close together, and service when we used to eat there was typically quite slow. The ambience at La Hacienda isn't as exciting (maybe unless you had a table during Illuminations?), but we have always experienced good, quick service.

As a frame of reference, until very recently we lived in Southern California, so we've eaten more than our share of Mexican food! :) We also enjoy the quick service Mexican food restaurant at Epcot.

HTH!
