L.A. Times: New Fantasmic Dragon delayed until "later this summer"

There were several times last season when there was no dragon. They have Maleficent wave her arms around longer while very up high in the air, then the projection of the dragon comes out a bit sooner and the river lights on fire. Fantasmic without the dragon has been seen by many.

When there is a dragon, Maleficent is up high in the air waving her arms around, the dragon comes out and there are projections of the dragon at the same time. They sort of layer each other and complement one another as the river ignites.

Sorry to bother, but who were you on VMK?
On Topic:
OK, so I don't think I've ever seen the real dragon in all my years of Disneyland, lol

No bother to ever talk about VMK. Miss it so. :sad1: I was Jegrezo. You? Btw, LOVE your bouncing Figment. LOVE Figment - and he does not exist at DLR, only WDW. Bummer. Isn't he just the greatest? hehe

While Fantasmic might still be a great show without the dragon, the thing is that in all of the commercials, ads, even the logo of Nighttastic!, Disney has been emphasizing the dragon, and there might be some disappointed folks who are expecting what they see in the commercials. Just thinking of it through a general public point of view.

We've seen Fantasmic without the dragon before. They had Malificent sway her arms more and when it came time for the dragon, they just had a bunch of lights moving around and stuff. It definitely won't be the same but the show has definitely gone on w/o the dragon before.

Second time - not a charm for Disney and imagineers.

This sounds like the Yeti of the West Coast.

The Yeti in WDW (expedition everest) has been broken for years with strobe lights as a substitute. Now he just stands there vs. swinging his big arm at the coaster car. Not scheduled to be repaired any time soon.

Too bad - when the Yeti worked the first year - it was WAY OUT OF CONTROL COOL.

Rumor has it the Yeti weight stresses over the long term were not taken into consideration....sounds a little like the Dragon, doesn't it!

Anyway, let's hope the Dragon does not go the way of the Yeti.

Whoo VMK!!! I totally played that too.

Anyways, despite the dragon being absent, I'm still gonna be there for Fan! & the rest of Nightastic! I can't wait & even though there's no dragon, I hope that the ppl who are there can go past that and still see the true beauty of the show & be thankful that there's even a show at all. :goodvibes

Well, we are watching the Dodger/Padres game and the LA channel just played a DL commercial. Its all about the dragon. So I can imagine that people will be expecting the dragon....

My DH is a sports fanatic so we get the mlb package and that way he can keep up with his childhood CA teams no matter how far we live from CA :)

:wizard: Cool Commercial!

Honestly, unless you've been really following it; most people probably won't notice it ;)

But we will :(

Hey, who were you on VMK? :)

I know, I'm just excited to see everything! I'm probably going next week with my dad, but idk. Either way, Disneyland is Disneyland.

The broken dragon is a disappointment, but in the last year they added new lighting, added new digital projectors, added Flotsam and Jetsam, and added a new Tic Toc (crocodile)...

so for now we'll have to live with the Maleficent on a Stick. :goodvibes

I wonder how the big media event went last night?

My daughter, Kelly, is going to go see it tonight, so I'm sure we'll get a report from her.

Did they have a news event last night after all? I thought they were going to wait until the dragon debuted? Or, do you think that they had one last night and will have another one once the dragon is fully functional?

From what I've heard, they had the news event last night, but there was more emphasis on the Magical fireworks.

FWIW, someone at another forum posted video of last night's Fantasmic (link).

I'll be taking pictures..I'll have to see which setting works best >.>

:lmao:

That made me think of those new Daniel Craig popsicles except that in my mind they were shaped like Maleficent and had wavy arms like those crazy air dancers.

bahahahaha..omg that's funny *wipes tear*

ok..well I didn't get any pics because by the time me and my friend got there (3 hours before) the area to sit down in front of the river was completely full..and we had to settle for a little section in front of Cafe Orleans..but we still got to see everything and stay away from the stampede after the fireworks..but about 1 hour before the show started there was an announcement that all the viewing areas for Fantasmic were completely full and people would have to wait for the next show

as you can kinda see people are still moving even if it is crowded..and most of the people on the bridge were moving

after the fireworks we went through the back stairs of where we were for a quick bathroom run and then went to go see if we could get better spots..but it was even more crowded than before..we didn't bother going through hell to find a good spot to see it..so we tried to go back to the place we were before..got close to it since it was already full..the announcement that was said earlier about all the viewing areas being full came one again 40 minutes before the second show..mind you the fireworks ended at like 9:45 and the next Fantasmic started at 10:30..and this is what it looked like

the people on that bridge weren't moving..that's usually not allowed at all..I felt bad for the people trying to get to Adventureland from New Orleans Square >_<

even though there was no dragon and instead had Maleficent on a stick the show was still epic..Flotsam and Jetsam were so cool the way they swam on the water, the new Tic Toc Crocodile was cool and looked a lot better than the other one..it's head moved a lot more too, the water screens were bigger which made them easier to see for the people in the back, and with the new projectors the pictures were a lot clearer and the colors more vivid

WOW! That is a lot of people! We will be there Friday and if it looks anything like that, I think we will stay far, far away!

I thought the 2nd one would not be as crowded as the first. I guess you're right - after the fireworks the people went to see the show.

That crowd is kind of scary.

On weekends (The second show is usually equally crowded, but the key is there is only 1 hour and 5 minutes between the end of the first show and the start of the second, so people can't camp out for hours for a spot.

From the end of fireworks, even less. However, when catching the second show, the entire key is maneuvering through the crowds to get to a spot. It can be tricky, as there are people leaving the riverfront and people coming all at the same time.
