The Tues. after Memorial Day my dh was up and out of the house early to catch his non-stop Airtran flight to Baltimore. He called a couple of hours later to say they were still on the ground. The flight had boarded, made it to the runway, then turned back when it was apparent that part of the jet ignition system was not working. They de-planed while mechanics came to look at it. Turned out it needed a part.....to be flown in from Atlanta! This was a 7 am flight, and when I check the website it wasn't slated to leave until 1 pm. My dh got waitlisted on the other confirmed non-stop flight (also leaving at 1 pm) just in case. And then started calculating....by the time he got into Balt. then drove into Washington, the day was totally lost. Plus he was flying up for a short week due to the Monday holiday---he always comes home on Thurs. night so that would leave him only 2 days up there.
Around 11:30 am he decided to call it a day and work from home that week instead, and at least salvage a half day's work that day. He asked the gate agent to have his ticket rebooked a couple of weeks out and they pulled his suitcase off the plane for him. What surprised us: a letter came in the mail from Airtran last weekend, saying "sorry for the inconvenience", here's a coupon for a free roundtrip flight. My dh suspects they sent it out to everyone on that flight. Great customer service!
