KTTW cards

Been to the world only 3 times and stayed at three different resorts. I wish that the KTTW cards were all different. What I really wish is that they had a pic of the resort you were staying at. Anyone know why WDW uses generic cards?

I agree that a pic of the resort would be better on our cards. This would be very, very helpful when you have a split stay. The present system leaves the park passes on the first resort key, then you also have to carry your room key for the second resort. We write "room" and "ticket" on them when we're at the second resort, but this would really solve that confusion.

Great idea! :thumbsup2

I guess Disney uses the same room keys for all of the resorts because it's cheaper to purchase them that way.

At one point they did have different keys, at least for some resorts. I have my room key from 1995 when we stayed at the all star sports, and it said all star sports on the room key. It was a plain white room key with the all star sports logo on it. Since it is the only resort I stayed at that year, I don't know if others had the resort names on them.

Personally, I like any hotel or resort room key to be as plain as possible. I really don't want anyone to know where I am staying unless I volunteer that information.

I hate to tell you this, but you can have the park passes from the first resort key moved over to the second resort key, thereby eliminating the need to carry both sets of resort keys. We did this on our trip in March 2008. It took only a couple minutes to effect this transfer.

I 'believe' they go with a more generic room key in order to be less deluxe vs value minded. I think they want their guests to feel that everyone is valued, that those staying in a deluxe are no more important than those in a value. I'm sure some might feel that if the resort logo was on the room key, and they were staying at POP, that perhaps they wouldn't be looked upon in the same manner as someone with the GF logo on their key card.

It isn't hard to keep cards separate...the dates of each stay are on the bottom of the card. I like the way they do the cards now..it's much less 'class conscious'..if you follow me.

While I have no idea if the above quoted passage has anything at all to do with why the cards are "generic" (personally, I kind of doubt that is the reason, but you never know), it is nevertheless my understanding that concierge/club level guests do receive KTTW cards that are a different color than regular guests for the very purpose of being able to distinguish such guests from each other.

Yes they do...they are, or at least were, gold in January. My dh got upgraded (part of that YOMD), and he and dd got to stay concierge at YC!
You are certainly allowed to doubt the reason, but that is what I was told by a CM in WDW. They may, or may not, have been telling the truth. Don't know...just reporting what I was told.

Thanks for pointing this out! We did a split stay in '06 and as the designated ticket/room key carrier, I was carrying around 8 cards for 4 people! We are doing another split stay in Sept/Oct. and I was planning on doing the same thing. This is going to make things so much less confusing. THANKS!

The Club Level floors/buildings are the exception when they give their guests the gold colour KTTW cards and not the blue ones. However they are still the same design as the blue cards, so the only thing different is the colour.

Your previous post about the cards simply stated that you believed something and did not explain that you belief was based on what you had been told by a CM. That certainly makes a stronger case for the reason you set forth.

I can understand the different colors for the Club Level. Technically, you are supposed to show your room key in order to access the lounge and those specific floors. Easier to see the color immediately than to have to look closer to see the printing on the card. Like what many states do for driver's licenses. Different backgrounds for those of drinking age and those not.

And a reason why the United States is starting to have colored money.

If your staying on a Club Level floor all you do is insert the card into the elevator and the floor your staying on will light up. If your in a Club Level building all you do is insert the card to the machine outside and the automatic doors will open up.

That would be nice. :)

Thank you, madalex. We will try this in July. I guess it's the things we don't know that can drive us nuts sometimes.
