I seem to remember that our KTTW cards were always blue, but when we checked in to BLT we got gold color keys. is this a recent change?

The Gold cards are VIP cards.

Congratulations! :)

With a regular non-CL stay, you won't get any perks having the card, but you may get some comments from CMs about being a VIP.

Enjoy! :teeth:

On our last trip this past January we got gold cards. No idea why.

I just pulled it out and compared it with a blue one from another trip. One difference I noted was on the gold one is says "DVC ROOM ONLY" while on the blue one it said "DVC MEMBER".

Same resort (OKW so no CL), both booked on points, just a year apart. Didn't even think about the different color, what it meant, or why it didn't say MEMBER on it.

The only time I've had a gold card was CL stays. But someone said once that sometimes that just happens to be the card stock they have on hand - that sometimes they run out of blue.

The *DVC MEMBER* notation on the card is a glitch since the system upgrade in late 2010. The lead name may have "room only" on the card, but other members of the party may still have "DVC Member."

That would make sense since my name was lead on the reservation and I was looking at my card.

In retrospect, I had a tough time booking that 2012 reservation and had to work with the Member Satisfaction team to get it right. It wasn't anything other than a limitation in what the reservation can do, but the CM was really apologetic about it.

He said he was marking us as VIPs, but I thought that was just a nice thing to say. I guess it got us the gold cards, which we didn't even realize meant anything, and from what I've read here really didn't in our circumstance.

I asked about this several times to the CMs I know personally.

They said there really is no difference between the cards, however at one point they were going to use the gold cards for VIPs or special guests only. This never happened.

To this day, I am convinced that I have gotten better treatment in restaurants from people when I show them the gold card than the blue one. Maybe some people knew about the plan to use the VIP Gold cards and recognize them, but they actually are just randomly selected from whatever cards they have at that hotel.
