FYI to fellow Disney gift card purchasers . . . looks like Kroger is running 4x fuel points again - this Fri/Sat/Sun only. There is a digital coupon you have to download in order to get the discount. Yay!!!

I split mine up over the entire course of paying off so that I don't have to get all the gas in one month and I bring fuel cans or we line up 2 cars - in other words, we make sure to get the entire 35 gallons each time if possible.

Fuel points last to the end of the month after you make the purchase that got you the fuel points. In other words, if you buy $500 in Disney cards and get 2x points (1000 points), and you buy those cards on May 11, the 1000 points will last until June 30. If you buy the cards on May 31, the points last until June 30. So we try to buy only the amount we expect to use. Also, if a 4x promotion lasts from one month into the next, say May 20 to June 4, we will buy in the next month, to maximize the time we have to use the points.

Yesterday, we purchased enough cards to pay for our excursions on the first of a B2B in Norway and the Baltic. We did not buy cards for the second cruise's excursions, as we won't be able to use that many points by the end of June. I would rather buy more cards in June at 2x points and be able to use them than buy them in May at 4x points and have the points expire and be completely wasted.

Thanks! With double points, If I use the 35 gallons each time, and I am doing my math correctly, that would equal out to a 7% discount on my cruise (minus my down payment because I didn't know about the Kroger "discount" when we paid that!). VERY NICE!

Yes, that is correct. However, if you wait for the 4x promotions, you'll get 14%! There should be another one coming in early June. Typically, the 4x promotions run at Easter, Father's Day, Back to School, and Thanksgiving. Note that if you use an Amex Blue Preferred card, you get 6% back in groceries (up to $6K in purchases; gift cards purchased at a grocery store count). What happens if they have the 4X points and I buy a $500 card? Do I lose the extra 1000 points, or would they be good for a second $1.00 off fuel?

Or should I just buy a $250 card, use those points, and then buy another $250 card?

You can buy as much as you want. For example, if you buy a $500 card at 4x points, you get 2000 points. 1000 points will be deducted at your next fill-up, for $1 off per gallon of gas. The other 1000 points will remain in your account for your next fill-up. We currently have 3,000 points that expire the end of this month, and another 4,000 that expire the end of next month. Happily, it automatically deducts the points that will expire first.

Just keep in mind that you will have some points from buying groceries there and also points from doing the little receipt survey (I budget 200 pts/month for that). I try to calculate how many points I will have for the month from those things before deciding how many gift cards to purchase. You don't want to end up with unused points (I have done that twice now and wanted to kick myself!).

BTW - Kroger is doing double points on groceries for shopping on Fri/Sat/Sun through 8/2. You have to download the digital coupon to your Kroger card to get that promo.

I just purchased my first $250 in Disney gift cards during this weekends promotion. I am only going to do $250 during each 4x fuel points because coordinating fueling up my car and my husbands car together more than once every couple weeks will be a pain! I also set up the Disney vacation account so I can get the $20 gift card (2%) after I deposit $1000.
