Kroger 4X Fuel Points - how often?

This is what my michigan store told me two days ago. There are only a select few cards that offer 4x fuel points and they change them all the time and there is no where to actually look at to read what cards apply. They themselves the cashiers and service counter clerks had no clue which ones applied.

With that being said, how do you all know which cards to purchase that give you 4x fuel points so I can try it myself since the actual store people were of no help.

*To the best of my knowledge*

During promotions like these, the 4x points applies to everything but the Kroger, Visa type cards, and probably phone cards. So, restaurants, retail, etc. would all apply. Basically, they don't want you to double dip with the discount and be able to use the card you bought when shopping at Kroger.

They do sometimes run promotions where only a certain type of giftcard gives you 4x points. For instance, for Mother's Day it was the Gap Inc. brand giftcards only.

Usually, if it is a specific type of card only, it will be stated on a sign near the giftcards or possibly on their website.

I was really excited about this because after doing the math, it's better than my 5% discount at Target. I used fuel points on this Tuesday to fill up at a Kroger for the first time in a long time. I did save some money but have been pretty surprised to watch my gas gauge sink really quickly. I drive a lot (50 miles a day) so I'm used to seeing it fall, but after two days I was already at about half a tank. I feel like I'm getting at least 5 miles less per gallon! I can't decide if I want to push the Kroger fuel points since it's not worth it if I run out of gas faster. Anyone else notice a difference?
FYI, I'm used to close to 30 mpg, and doing the math now that I'll get about 400 miles on this tank means I'm doing 25 mpg.

I did buy another $100 of Disney gift cards at Krogers yesterday. Couple of good things.

1) You can now use 2,000 points to get $2 off a gallon of gas. It's a summertime offer that expires on Sept 30. Don't know if other Kroger regions are doing this; this is Cincinnati.

2) Since I bought Disney gift cards, I got a catalina worth $10 off a $50 purchase at Disney.com or the Disney Store. Unfortunately, it's not good on park tickets or some other items. But it's a good deal; especially if you want to buy some Disney items (maybe that princess dress for BBB).

Actually, my 5% discount at Target is better. I have a small car, so a small gas tank (around 12 gallons). I usually like to run the car at fumes before filling up, so my fill-ups are about 11 1/2 gallons. $250 in gift cards is a dollar off per gallon of gas, so I'll save $11.50 for every $250 of gift cards, or about 4.6%. By using the Target card, I'll save $12.50 for every $250 of gift cards, or 5%. However, Krogers is much more convienent than Target. Honestly, I haven't activated my card yet. Plus, I haven't seen any Disney cards at my Target. They're probably there; I've just haven't looked.

I haven't really thought about the gas mileage too much. We're allowed to use our fuel points at Shell as well..every 100 points is worth 10 cents off. I'll check next time I fill up and see.

I used this program to pay for most of a 7 night cruise last October. I just paid off a 5 night Disney cruise leaving from NY ENTIRELY in gift cards. I am about to pay off a second 4 night cruise off the exact same way. I've gotten them all at Kroger. Every time there is a 4x special, I stock up on them. They seem to have it around Mothers Day, Fathers day, Christmas and I seem to recall around back to school time.

I always meet my husband at the pump and we fill both cars. I pull in first then he backs up right behind me. Both our cars, when on empty, use about 29 gallons. So its almost 30bucks every time we fill up. By spacing out my gift card purchases I time it so I have the discount for the longest possible time. (keep an eye on this because often the 4x promotion runs during two months- so only buy what you can use in the next month, then buy more once the new month rolls over...this extends the time you have to use the discount)

Until the end of September Kroger is allowing you to use up to two thousand points per fill up...so for us that means 60 dollars savings every time we fill up.. the last time we filled up we paid 1.49 a gallon. That was fun!

The lady at Small world vacations knows me as "The gift card lady". She says she's never had anyone else pay for a cruise entirely with gift cards before!

Side note.. on our first cruise I used the gift cards to 'pre pay' for our shipboard account expenses by just calling Disney and having them post it to our account.

I haven't paid full price for gas for at least a year now. :)

:cool1:

I had to buy quite a lot of the smaller denominations of the Disney GC. I split them up into a few separate calls. The CM had no problem taking 10 at a time.

Go to a different Kroger. They are often out of them at my local Kroger, but other areas it isn't as popular. When I find a Kroger that sells the "up to 500" or "up to 1500" dollar cards.. I take several with me and then use them when I am ready to.

Makes it easier for everyone involved.

Excited that I get to use 3100 points this month.

AND gas is starting to come down some.

Currently 4XFP are being offered on itunes and Cracker Barrel GC in my part of MI.

We pass many Cracker Barrels on the drive down to WDW, so we may be picking up more of those and eating there to help get some points for August.

My Vons in So Cal - says 30 gallon maximum, 1 car per transaction. But, when we went to fill up 3 cars, the pump stopped at 25 gallons (and it hadn't even reached $100)....

We do it differently. I pull up at the pump, my wife pulls up at the punp directly across from me. The same hose goes from my tank, across the pump and into her tank. We don't need to move vehicles or lay down a hose to make it work.

We save $30 every fillup and have 6 more fillups to use before the end of May.

This is what we do.

Also, I tracked this last year and Kroger did this at the following times in my area:

Spring Break(late march early April)
Mothers day
Fathers day
Back to School(late Aug early Sept)
Thanksgiving/Chrismas

It always ran for 4 weeks and crossed over a month.

I'm glad to k ow im not the only one who gets excited when it's 4x points time! I'm planning an Orlando trip for 5/13, and am hoping history will repeat and they'll have the bonus before Christmas and spring break! Haven't tried the filling up two cats at once thing- I'm sure DH wouldn't go for it, but we usually get at least 30 gallons filling up his big truck, so I'm happy with that! I wish there was a place to get US GC around here. Anybody know where to buy them to get the discount? TIA

The 4x promotion is usually offered right before back to school, beginning of december, and at end of school. The only cards that don't apply are the Kroger gift card. Usually each promo is two weeks. All other times of the year it is 2x.

Each fill up is 35 gallons. Most will not say anything if you are filing up two cars. It is sales for them.

Just to clarify - the gift cards you buy at Kroger for Disney, can be used at the restaurants.......

When does the September end? It has 4x on the online ad but nothing about how long it goes.

Depends on the area. Usually goes 2 weeks before school starts. Their will be 4x signs at the gift card mall w an expiration date on the promo sign.

The guy in Krogers told me that they offer this 4 times a year - Spring Break/Father's Day/Back to School/Christmas. I have been buying those gift cards and getting the $2 off a gallon. If I could just get my husband to fill up his car at the same time! He wants the premium gas in his car and I only want the lower grade.

At least some offer 35 gallons max. Mine only offers 25 gallons max so one car (we fill up 3) usually has to fill up another 4 gallons at "regular" price to be a full tank. We also only get $1 off per gallon.

I asked at my local Vons (Safeway) in Southern California and the cashier didn't know when the promotion would end...

Kroger's 4X Fuel Rewards promotion started today in Metro Detroit. Ends December 9th
