Krispy Kreme at BW?

A conversation with someone about Disney and peanut allergies got me to wondering about donuts. My daughter eats Krispy Kreme at home, I thought I read once that somewhere on the BW they sold Krispy Kreme donuts?
The chef at Chef Mickey's once told me the donuts they have there are Krispy Kreme.

I'm wondering cause I know there is a bakery on the BW, but I'm scared to even take her in there.

Thanks!

As far as I know there is not a Krispy Kreme on the Boardwalk. There is the Boardwalk Bakery and they do sell some out of this world donuts and other breakfast pastries. I made a couple of trips over there myself during our stay in December.

Although I have not had them, others have posted that they got KK at either the Swan or Dolphin. Hopefully we'll hear from them on this thread. We'll be going to BWV in October, so I need my memory jogged as well!

The donuts that are sold at the Boardwalk Bakery are ones they bake inhouse.

There are Krispy Kremes on the buffet at the Cape May at the Beach Club.

Tubbi's (at the Dolphin) sells Krispy Kremes.

Best wishes -

they are found at the Exxon gas station by Boardwalk

Now that you mention it, there were Krispy Kremes, or donuts that took on a Krispy Kreme appearance and taste, at the Cape May character breakfast.

They are definitely at Tubbis Buffeteria at the Dolphin...along with Starbucks coffee.

Lenshanem,

My DD5 is allergic to peanuts and nuts as well. I don't know about you, but I'm very very cautious about my DD and baked goods. I think even if I could verify that there were actual Krispy Kreme's on the Cape May buffet, I still wouldn't let her eat them. I'd be afraid that whatever was next to the Krispy Kreme's might contain peanuts/nuts and that she'd have a reaction due to cross-contamination.

I don't know if you've ever done this, but I do prior to every trip "home." A month or so before we leave I go to the regular WDW website (www.waltdisneyworld.com) and click on "Contact Us." Then I send an e-mail stating that I will be visiting with my peanut- and nut-allergic daughter and would like some information regarding food preparation and ingredients. Within a few days I get a reply. It's been the same letter each time outlining general procedures and policies. Contained in the letter is the phone number for the executive chef at each park. The letter encourages phone calls to these chefs for further clarification. I call each one (sometimes it takes a while to get a hold of them) let them know my situation and ask how they accommodate food allergies in their park. I always ask if they have anything written that they could e-mail or mail me that enumerates the ingredients and preparation methods used throughout the park.

To my recollection, each park has a detailed list of "safe" foods and/or an ingredient listing of foods that are served in multiple locations throughout their particular park. The exception is the Animal Kingdom which always seems to have the least info. The best is MK which was even able to verify TWO locations where we could buy ice cream -- a big treat for my DD who NEVER eats ice cream that I haven't made myself at home.

I print these lists out, put them in the same bag as my Benadryl and EpiPens and pull them out as needed. We've had 3 trips with NO reactions using these lists.

That said, it's up to you and your comfort level regarding the Krispy Kremes. Speaking of Krispy Kremes -- we're just starting to get them in our area. I haven't let her have them yet. Are they a completely nut-free operation?

Hi Dawn. The Krispy Kremes by my house do not make any donuts with nuts. I pulled up their website the other day and none of their donuts have nuts, but you might want to verify that with your new Krispy Kreme.
I meet with other moms in my area with peanut allergic kids and I know several of them frequent Krispy Kreme, two of us even send in the chocolate covered ones to keep in the school freezer for special snacks.
When we ate at Chef Mickey's last time the chef walked me around with a list and said the donuts were Kripsy Kreme and were nut free. I'm sure he would have gotten fresh ones from the back if she wanted one. He ended up making her a breakfast pizza cause the one on the buffet was next to the PB&J one.

Yes, I do have that "standard" email reply from them. I also call all the chefs prior to our trip. You are right, some are hard to get hold of. I'm also going to be calling about the ice cream carts. I was once told the Mickey Bars were safe and my daughter had them with no problems, but later someone on this board said their child reacted. I emailed Nestle and got a very vague reply, but I think those Itzadoosie's or something like that might be safe. She has also had the Dole Whips. Where did you get ice cream from at the MK?

Thanks!

Shan,

My DD has had the Itzakadoozies many times with no problems, but never the Mickey bar. The person I spoke to said she could only safely vouch for the Itzakadoozies as far as as the ice cream carts go.

We've also had no problem with the Dole Whips (I'm assuming you mean the place in Adventureland where they have vanilla and vanilla pineapple items). Near there, on the opposite side of the Aladdin's Magic Carpet Ride at a place I think is called Aloha Isle, we've had the frozen yogurt (vanilla, chocolate and vanilla/orange swirl) without any problems.

The person I contacted at MK (it was the Executive Chef's assistant) also claimed that the following two places were safe, however, I didn't have the nerve to try them. She said if we spoke to the manager, we could have the hard ice cream at the ice cream shop on Main Street USA. She said he would insure that the ice cream was safe and taken from a new carton. That seemed kind of sketchy to me. In addition, the info she e-mailed me (which unfortunately was deleted from my hard drive due to one of those horrible internet viruses, otherwise I'd send it to you) said that at Auntie Gravity's Galactic Goodies there was ice cream available (soft, I think) that was safe. It did say, however, that sundaes were served and that nuts were present in the food prep area, but that a fresh pair of gloves would be put on to prepare a food allergic customer's ice cream and that every effort would be made to avoid cross-contamination.

Each chef I spoke to, however, did say that they change vendors occasionally, so it never hurts to check back in before you go.

Another thing we do is on the way from the airport to BWV, we stop at a supermarket and buy a bunch of things including brownie or cake mix (Pillsbury). I'll bake the brownies or cupcakes the first night we get there and then we're set for the rest of the trip. When we go out to dinner, I just pop one into my bag and bring it out at dessert. Sometimes I even go crazy and make frosting;)

Oh yeah, I just remembered, if you go to the Hoop De Doo Revue, the strawberry shortcake is safe as well. There is no item served at the show that contains peanuts or nuts and it's all made in the same on-site kitchen.

Take care,
Dawn

Thanks Dawn.
Yes, we've had the frozen yogurt in Adventureland, too now that I think about it.
I feel pretty good about soft serve in general, it is the hard stuff I worry about.
I agree, I would be very hesitant about the hard ice cream even with a fresh scoop and tub. Did they mention who makes the ice cream?
I have already told my daughter she will not be able to eat the Mickey Bars this time. She was upset cause it was a really big deal to her last trip. I bought her a similar thing to Itzadoosie at a fair recently and she liked it and I explained she could have something like that at WDW.

Does anyone recall if they sell soft serve ice cream at BW or the Itzadoosies?

Dawn, we've eaten the smores at 50's PT numerous times now. Each time I have the chef come out and we go over all the ingredients, brands and the boxes. My daughter eats Hershey's plain milk chocolate bars with no problems. I have contacted them several times and they seem to be quite up on allergies, unlike Nestle! :(
