We'll be at the Swan so it is a bit of a trek to either. Which is more worth it, Kona's (with fireworks) or Wolfgang Puck (the calamari and desserts sound fabulous)? Going for "romantic setting" here as well. Thanks.

I haven't been to Wolfgang Puck's so I can't offer anything on that one, but we just returned and had probably our best meal in all 7 days at Kona Cafe. It was absolutely awesome. Everything was really, really good. I had the Filet Mignon and it was out of this world. The Kilahea Chocolate Torte dessert is probably worth the trip alone. That being said, if it's ambience you are looking for, unfortunately Kona doesn't have it. When we first walked up, I thought it was a counter service area. We were looking for something along the lines of the CA Grill or similar and almost walked away. I really am glad we stayed simply because of the food, but given all the other choices out there, I would probably pick somewhere else if you are looking for romantic.

Kona does not have a view of fireworks. Unless your hanging out at the poly after dinner? using the beach area? Then it works. ;) Its ok, I would definately check out the menu 1st I've eaten there when we stay at the poly but can't really see myself go to the poly for kona. :earseek:

I love Wolfgangs! We finally tried it this year. Sis really didn't think she would like it and I talked her into it, and we ate there 3 times! I 1st picked it for out cirque nite, and it was great. Romantically would be great to have an outside table by the lake in back! In the dark they have candles on the tables and nice tablecloths. very pretty. some tables are more crowded in certain areas than others and some aren't. We are a party of 2 and had an area that was busy but we had a lot of room. I saw the tables in the back and thought they looked like a nice place for a date. ;) Food wise I didn't find a thing either of us didn't like. I really liked the tv's monitoring the kitchens too very clean. :earseek:

I do recommend adr for whichever you choose they are both popular.
happy dining, Mky princess:

You can't go wrong at either one, they are both very good. WE usually go to both each trip. If I had to choose one, I guess I'd choose Wolfgang Puck Cafe for the atmosphere and the desserts. I love creme brulee and they have a sampler that is fantastic, especially the butterscotch!!! :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

Kona for us. It's one of our favorite WDW restaurants. It's not romantic in itself, but strolling the Poly is very cozy IMHO.

I found the outdoor dining at Puck's very nice, but was disappointed in the food. We loved the Sushi Bar & the Express Pizza, but not so much the Cafe.

We love both for the food but not the atmosphere although I agree a walk around the Polynesian grounds is very romantic.

But both are busy rather noisy restaurants. The few tables outside at WPC do enjoy a very nice view and would be quiet. But it also get cold out there. We had lunch outside last Feb. and the portable heaters didn't help much.

I would judge the food about equal in both places but I would give WPC a definite thumbs up in the atmosphere dept. We ate at both places last week and while my meal at Kona's was absolutely the best, DH's and DD's were just OK....the main drawback was the atmosphere...loud and we had the misfortune to be seated right by the walkway so everyone waiting to be seated was hanging right over our table....we felt like we were eating in a fishbowl....several people made comments about our dinners like we were not even there and one lady dropped her baby's pacifier into my tea and then proceeded to reach over and pluck it out of my glass with her fingers!! She never even acknowledged the fact that it was in my drink!! We have eaten there several other times and not had such intrusive experiences because we were seated to the inside of the restaurant....but even so if you are looking for atmosphere I would DEFINATELY go Wolfgan Puck's.

We ate outside on the patio right by the lake as dusk fell and had a lovely view of the lake and Saratoga Springs Resort. We did not feel rushed and had very good service while we dined by candle light....the clalmari was to die for...better than Alfredo's and that is pretty good. The mahi-mahi was excellent as well. Desserts were terrific (or at least they would have been had I not been so stuffed by the time they arrived!!) It was our first trip there and we will definately be back. The atmosphere was what I would call romantic casual.

I like the food at both, but would have to give the edge to Wolfgang Pucks for food. Kona can be loud. I just ate there Saturday night with a friend, and it was a fun casual meal, but I wouldn't consider it a romantic place.

We had dinner at Kona last month and the food was fabulous. Not romantic, but at least nobody dropped a pacifier in my drink! YIKES!

We want to try Wolfgang Puck's Cafe on our next trip. Do they accept ADR's or is it all walk up?

WPC does accept Advanced Reservations.

SB, I read your report on the pacifier incident at Kona and was thinking. Wouldn't it be nice if there was a glass partition? It would prevent incidents like yours, cut down the noise, and still provide the pretty view of the greenery in the foyer, monorail, etc..

OHHHH.great idea BCV23....a glass partition would really add some seperation between the areas and would be bound to improve the noise factor. It might also help if they put some benches/seating along the other side of the walkway to keep people from hanging over your table.
