Kona vs. Ohana

We're booked at the Poly Jan 5-12, and I'm wringing my hands over our breakfast ADRs. Kona is a definite (have to try that Tonga Toast!), but I'm trying to decide about the following day. Would you do Kona twice or Kona once & Ohana once? We're a family of 5 with adults who love breakfast and three kids (5, 3 & 1) who will be happy with Mickey waffles and fruit. None of us feel strongly about Lilo & Stitch, & we're doing Chef Mickey's later in the week, so it's less about the character interaction & more about the food/variety of experience.

We're staying at the Poly towards the end of January and opted to do Kona once and 'Ohana once. We've been to 'Ohana for dinner but haven't been to either for breakfast so wanted to try them both. We also love Stitch ;)

Kona without any doubt. Narcoossee's and Kona were the best meals in our 10 days stay at Disney. Sorry for my poor english...Vero.

I would go somewhere different like Cape May/Goofys Beach Bash...awesome food and adorable characters in their bathing suits.

If you do not want to travel far do Kona again or go to MK and eat at CP with Pooh and the gang

If you've never been to either restaurant, I would try both.

While I love a good breakfast, do you need sit downs for each of your breakfasts? I would just think that getting up and getting 3 kids ready to go to a sit down meal would be stressful. Unless you are trying to use up dining credits - and this works best for you... Or - maybe your kids are early risers - and this fits your schedule best. It would kill my husband and 13 year old step daughter to get up for breakfast each day - so I am the coffee and muffin lady each morning. My 7 year old helps me carry the snacks back to the room!

Isn't Ohana an "all you care to eat" breakfast where they bring it to the table? Or is that just dinner? To me - that is easier than waiting for food to be cooked - so I would potentially opt for that. (I have an antsy, can't wait for their food kind of family!)

If you want to skip the sit down, you could always go to the food court (I forget the name at the Polynesian) and get some carry out breakfasts.

Have fun planning! Isn't that the best part!?! :) Okay - almost the best part.

Yeah, they're a crew of early risers -- this AM two of them were out of bed by 6:10. :headache: Breakfast is DH's favorite meal of the day, and the kids are picky eaters, so a meal where there's fruit & waffles is the one that's most likely to be worthwhile taking them to TS. (We'll be seeing a lot of the inside of Captain Cook's at lunchtime!)

I also have an antsy crew, but I wasn't sure if Ohana's family style was delivered to the table faster than Kona's menu orders. Is it? If so, that would be a selling point!

We LOVE the Ohana breakfast! We love it so much that we did it twice on our last trip (a couple of weeks ago)! :thumbsup2

I would definitley do Kona and 'Ohana! Mix it up-it's vacation! :thumbsup2

If your DH loves breakfast he would probably really enjoy the food at 1900 Park Fare at the GF. You can walk or monorail over there from Poly. They have an omlet station where you can get either an omlet made to order or an egg made to order. I really like that as my picky eaters like fried eggs better than scrambled. They also have nice pecan rolls.

We also really enjoy the CP at MK. They have the same type of omlet station and they have these very deep fried donut things. They call them a cinnamon french toast but they don't have egg on them like french toast.

We did enjoy our breakfast at OHana in August and it was nice that it was served family style but I would rank the food higher at both 1900 PF and CP.

OH...and the breakfast at Boma at AKL is great for a breakfast lover too just a bit harder to get to from Poly.

Thanks, everyone! This info is great.

Since so many people have recommended other options, I figured I'd throw in my current breakfast ressies so you'll know what's already covered:

Sunday -- Kona
Monday -- ??
Tuesday -- CRT
Wednesday --Boma
Thursday -- open (I'm debating switching Storybook from dinner to breakfast)
Friday -- Crystal Palace
Saturday -- Chef Mickey's

I'd like to stay at the Poly for Monday breakfast b/c we're going to try to make the rope drop at MGM, so I don't want to add extra travel time by dining at another resort. Ditto Chef Mickey's on Saturday; we leave the AM, so I don't want to move beyond the monorail. (I had considered 1900 PF for that morning, too, but it's been getting some very erratic reviews.)

I had sworn that I wasn't going to overdo the TS on this trip. Famous last words... ;)

if you're anxious to try the Tonga Toast, they have it at the Poly food court (Captain Cooks). just as good as Kona :thumbsup2 you could do counter service for breakfast one day and Ohana another!

Sparklemom -

Yes - 6:10am while on vacation will be fun for you! :) I get up early on vacation, but it is to do some work and enjoy some peace and quiet. The good news for you is that WDW has some great breakfast places - so enjoy and try a variety!

For Monday - have you considered Donald's Breakfastasaurus (how ever you spell it!) in AK? I guess it depends on your park days, but if you are up - heck - head on over and get an early breakfast and be the first ones on the safari after breakfast! :goodvibes
