Ok, so the back story is that for about 4 years I have wanted to try Kona breakfast because I kept reading raves about these pancakes and I generally love pineapple anything. It never fit into our schedules and I always had to cancel. Then I read they stopped putting the pineapple IN the batter and only on top of plain pancakes so I figured I'd never try them (much like the espresso chocolate pancakes at captain's grille). Now it seems like they've gone back to putting them in? I was able to get a reservation for a last minute trip, the timing isn't ideal but doable. So before I make us get up early after a late night at the parks, and on a day we're switching hotels, can someone please confirm how these pancakes are prepared?

Thanks!

I'm not sure when you read they made the change to putting them in the pancakes but I dined there about 6 months ago and they were definitely not in the batter. Would have been tastier if they were!

Thing is... you could easily make them at home so I am not sure I'd stress myself out trying to get there just for that. They aren't - IMO - unique or challenging to make at home (like Tonga Toast). A solid choice if you're already dining there but not worth a trek. But I also get craving something for several years and wanting to finally try it :)

As of August, they were the same pancakes as always. Plain pancakes with large macadamia nuts mixed in(easy to pick out, there are too many for my taste) with the pineapple on top. Pineapple was definitely not in the batter.

I don't ever recall having pineapple in the pancakes. There are macadamia nut pieces in the pancakes, but the pineapple was always part of the topping along with the macadamia nut butter.

Yep, I had them in August... plain pancakes with pineapple macadamia nut topping.
They were very good, but no pineapple “in” the pancakes.

These pancakes are my absolute favorite breakfast item in WDW. I have been getting them for years and the pineapple has never been in the batter, only on top (I always ask for it on the side). The macadamia nuts are in the batter and in the butter. I honestly don't know if I would like them as much as I do if the pineapple was in the pancakes, since I'm not a huge pineapple fan.

As some others have said, the macadamia nuts are in the pancake, so they aren't plain. In fact, they are loaded with nuts and the pineapple is on top. The macadamia nut butter is amazing, so I always ask for more.
