Has anyone tried this? I love fish, and seafood, but this was my first time trying ono. So I am wondering, is it supposed to be flakey when cooked? Or still pink and raw looking inside? I orderd this at Kona on Friday night. I took a bite, didn't love the flavor, but figured I could still eat it. The further I got to the middle, I began to sort of gross out :( It looked uncooked to me. I asked the waitress and she said "I don't know how it is supposed to look, this is new on the menu". She said she would let the cooks know. That was that. She never got back to me. Sooo I am just wondering if this is the way it was supposed to look or was in not cooked enough? I should have ordered the darn steak!!! :lmao:

I thought you meant, Kona? Oh, no!!!! I'm not a fan of Kona Cafe.

Steaming the fish and serving it in that light soy sauce is a much more delicate method of cooking. I think the mahimahi that was served before was a much more forgiving method of preparation. If you over cook that fish and it becomes dry, the heavy sauce would lend it some flavor. The cooks might just need time to become familiar with how to prepare the dish.

Yes, Kona Cafe. They recently took the Mahi Mahi off of the menu and added Ono which is some sort of white fish. I had never tried it, so was wondering if that is the way it is or what the deal is. Ewww.

Maybe so? I doubt I will be trying it again :scared1:

I would encourage you to try it again, maybe let them know that you want it cooked through. I much prefer Ono to Mahimahi, it has a sweeter, more distinct taste. I meant to ask in my previous post, how did you like the sauce they served the Ono with?

LOVED the sauce!!!!! I actually enjoyed my rice and the greens that came with it, very much :)

At least that part was good! I still think the chef just needs to adjust the timing of the fish, I hope so anyway...
I'm so on the fence about this ressie. The one thing that did appeal to me on the menu was the Ono, but if they're not making it right it I can see where it would be yucky. We're from Hawaii and eat a lot of fish with rice and veggies, I thought at this point in our vacation Kona would seem like home cooking. I don't want the critics (my family) to be comparing it to the places we eat locally and find it lacking.

Well if you do end up going there and trying it, report back and let us know how it was. Maybe cut in the middle first to see what the center looks like. Boy, I wish I had!
