We were going to try 'Ohana for dinner till we started reading so many negative reviews. If we are going to spend that much money for dinner, we want some good food! I also was a little concerned about whether our grandson would eat any of it, and how many chicken nuggets will he want?;)

We are a party of 5 adults and one 6 yr old.

The menu at Kona looks great- can anyone give us some opinions on food, atmosphere, service?

Is there any view?
Do they do anything special at dinner with the kids?

Thanks for your help!

We have eaten at both places once. We really enjoyed them both! The Kona wings are NOT to be missed! More choices I believe at Kona Cafe, and at Ohana there was just too much meat served. The wings stood out so much at both places that I found the recipe online and made them for our luau party at home and they were very close to the ones at the Polynesian but not exactly the same. DARN close though and a huge hit.
The atmosphere at Kona was pretty casual, and the biggest hit besides the wings was the Ice Cream Cone dessert. It was a waffle cone, with candy sprinkles on a cloud of cotton candy. All the kids in our group were just wide eyed by it! At Ohana, it was busy and we enjoyed the entertainment and watching the kids play the coconut game. Mostly at both we were so entertained by the company we were with, that we enjoyed both places and really did like the food at both.

We ate at both places on our trip. Ohana has the view since its on the corner with the windows. Kona is next to it so there isnt a view other then the 2nd floor of the Poly lol.

We loved both places both had tasty food and good service.
I think i would say Kona looks like a Bistro? I had the Teriyaki New York Strip
and my mouth is watering as i type it was really good.

They didnt do anything with the kids at Kona, like they do in Ohana (we were there for mothers day weekend so they had the whole mom theme going on) my dd fell asleep just as they were seating people ugh so she slept on 2 chairs so that took up a chunk of space but our server helped us out.
Got her the lai's they were handing out to the kids so she wouldnt miss out.

what ever one you choose will be a good choice

I have never eaten at Kona but I have at Ohana. I will go in Dec and try Kona, I decided not to go back to Ohana after reading here all the negative thinks. I want to remember it the way it was so Kona might become a new tradition for me. :cool1:

We have eaten at both and love both but I would pick Ohana over Kona....we had a fantastic time and the food was awesome

Dined at both. 'Ohana once, Kona Cafe many times.

Kona wins hands down. No contest. Much better food and....you get to choose.

Service is fine at both in our experience.

The view is better at 'Ohana in general although our table faced the service area.:rotfl:

The last three years, we have eaten at both places, most recently in early August of this year.

Kona is good, and we like it; however, for us, 'Ohana is the can't miss one. we had better food and service this year at 'Ohana than we did at Kona (which was somewhat disappointing this trip).

We haved dined at both and really love both. Kona offers much better food, and O'Hana is a "fun" atmosphere. If I had to choose between the two, Kona would win every time, the food is that good. Either way, you'll have a great dinner I'm sure. Mary

Kona is great! I can't say anything about Ohana, but it was super packed when we were there. Kona has great service, great food, and even though I've only been there once, I know it's going to be a must-eat-at restaurant during our future trips to WDW>

The tonga toast is to die for at Kona during breakfast.

I'm getting hungry just thinking about it!

We've dined at both. This past year our meal at Kona was not that great -Not sure if the horrible service (they never put our order in and kept saying it was coming) - The food wasn't that good either. Not sure if the last minute rush to get it to us caused this, but we weren't impressed. It was my birthday meal too :(

The last time we had Kona too, I remember not thinking the food was that spectacular.

We love Ohana's though - It has never not been good!

Have eaten at Kona for breafast and love it and my parents always eat at Kona for dinner and love it. We are going to try Ohanna for dinner in Aug. I hope we like it.

We just got back this past weekend and Ohana's was the favorite of all 7 adults in our party (the kids liked the character meals!). We didn't have a dinner at Kona this time (we did breakfast) but I ate there last year for dinner. In my opinion the atmosphere at Ohana is ten times better than Kona and the food is better too. We try and make Ohana a dinner destination on every trip and have bfast at Kona so we get the best of both.;)

Thanks for the input- the reviews of 'Ohana are so up and down- I hate to go and get there on one of the down days... so I thought perhaps Kona was an alternative.
I am still confused :confused3
