We will be staying at the Poly for 9 nights beginning on 7/31/2010. We do have adr's for several restaurants. Do I need to make ADR's for the kona cafe. We do plan to have some breakfasts and suppers there since we are staying at the POLY but really have no idea what time we would be there to eat and don't want to make ADR's and plan our whole trip around them.

Thanks,

Rick:yay:

The Kona Cafe is a very good and popular restaurant and summer is peek season so I would say make some ADR's now, maybe when you get there you could change the times or days since you will be staying at Poly you could go to the restaurant and see how busy they are. If you make some ADR's now at least you would have them.

IMO you need to make ADRs. If you decide later that you don't want them, you can always cancel.

Kona is my hubby's fav restaurant, so we've eaten here a million times, and yes, as others have said, you need ADRs. Kona and 'Ohana at the Poly are both always packed as not only are they the only TS restaurants there, but people leave MK, as well as other MK resorts by monorail to dine here.

It's always packed and we spend 2 weeks each July @ WDW! Great food, Tiger :)

The Kona is very popular especially for breakfast. I suggest you make the
ADR's. I went there last year for dinner and was very pleased with everything.

I can't wait to eat there! I have ADR's next Thursday and have been dying to have the Tonga Toast!!!

Staying at the PR during peak Summer season. Most people who visit Disney World make no plans at all. This approach works, but you do miss out on a lot of the offering Disney provides. Often you can walk right by things because they did't know they even existed or were offered. Table service dining on the other hand, has gained tremendous increase in diners due to Disney Dining Plans. Visiting and posting on this site you are among of people who plan to get the most of their stay. If you don't mind eating lots of counter service during your stay, you will be fine without ADRs. Just don't have any expectations of dining table service outside the ones you have made up to this point in time. Don't expect to get into Kona without an ADR, during the Summer.

If you like to dine at table service (TS) restauarants, during peak season, you should make ADRs. You can even reference this guidance on Disney's site, since many TS restarants will book up during these months. There may be no shows but there will be plenty of people to cover over these no shows. Often Disney over books to cover projected no show trends.

Amen to the last post. I ma a big planner and my wife is not. She said the same thing Ricknars has said, I dont want ot planb the trip around ADR's. We went in June 2003 with no kids. We stayed four nights. I made one ADR. This actually worked out well for us ( we were simply lucky I think). We got into Ohana and everything with no problem and no ADR. On one night, we had diffuculty in finding any place to eat. It seemed that everywhere we went we were simply shut out of a table. It was after midnight when we finally returned to the food court and got something to eat. This was way before the dining plan so things are worse. We did have to wait some at places but not too long. We did not mind without the kids. If I had kids in tow I would surely make ADRS and have a plan these days. This JUly we will be returning with the kids this time and staying for 9 nights. I have two ADRS and plan to wing the rest with mostly counter service. I may throw in a couple of more ADR's before I am done. A plan is always best when you can get it together.

I had trouble booking Kona Cafe for breakfast in December when it was low season. Please, if you want to eat anywhere that is a TS location, make an ADR.

Kona is really popular for breakfast, I'd make an ADR just to be safe. Lunch is slower, I had no problem making ADRs and when I got there it was pretty empty. But better be safe than sorry :)
