Kona Cafe????? Your thoughts?

Kona is one of our "must-do's" now. We love it! The crabcakes, potstickers, mahi-mahi, and shrimp and scallops were all yummy!

Enjoy!

We love love love Kona!

We eat there at least once every trip. The filet is amazing and the banana caramel creme brulee is the best dessert on property!

Thank you all so much!! I was SO bummed I couldn't get into Ohana's but it appears that was a blessing in disguise!! Now I'm getting really excited! Thanks for posting the pictures as well!!!

I don't really trust the menus on line 100%. If anyone was there recently with kids, please let me know what they had...thanks!

In my experience, most of the noise at Kona comes from people waiting to be seated at 'Ohana! Kind of ironic -- why is everyone waiting for 'Ohana when Kona is better? If you are not seated next to the aisle, the noise usually isn't too bad, but there's no escaping the fact that it is designed as a coffee shop atmosphere rather than a secluded quiet restaurant.

The food is great. Even the vegetable bowl was outstanding! I wasn't hungry that night but I gobbled up the whole thing.
If that's the case, can I assume that lunch is much quieter? Anyone with any lunchtime experience there?

If I recall, lunch was much more quiet. Not as many people dining at that time either - however we were seated next to the railing near the walkway both at lunch and one of the dinners. If I were to dine there again, I'd request a table away from there.

I wouldn't consider it an intimate place to dine, but the food is awesome.

Was there Saturday night and the server said they are changing the menu as of Sunday.

She said potstickers were still on the menu, but would be served with a seaweed salad garnish rather than cucumbers. The caesar salad was being removed. The mahi mahi was being removed or changed somehow. The turkey was being removed and replaced with a pork chop. The pan-asian noodles were going to be either removed or changed.

Before you decide you may want to see if anyone posts who has eaten there after Sunday.

The bar menu at Tambu has been completely redone. You can't get potstickers or a cheese plate there anymore. You can now get the crab cakes, and there is some sort of chicken dish with lettuce, and there are wings. Several of the old specialty drinks are no longer listed (lapu lapu, backscratcher, and the Malibu Macaw are still there, plus I think the Island Sunset).

This is so sad. Many of our favorites will be changed/removed. Of course I'll go back, but it won't be the same.

I hope they dont change it. A server once told us that they once took the mahi and the ice cream cone off the menu but people REALLY COMPLAINED and had to bring them back!
It is our favorite place to eat in Disney!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One word for Kona's is OUTSTANDING!

Kona is my FAVORITE FAVORITE FAVORITE restaurant in WDW. We ate here 3 times in July and enjoyed every meal. I'm sorry I don't have pictures, but here's what I had....

~Pulled Pork Sandwich
~Chicken Caesar Salad
~Tonga Toast

All were wonderful. We'll be going back! :)

Is Kona a good restaurant? What should I stay away from?[/QUOTE]

I would rather eat at Kona. It is a must stop for breakfast. The Kona coffee is great.

A must on everytrip. Have eaten there 3x already and now I have a ressie in Oct. 2007 (1-1/2 weeks away!) and I just made one tonight for April 2008!
Our family tradition now to eat there EVERY trip! SOOOOOO Good!

LOVE KONA!!!! Breakfast is awesome (Sept 2007 2x!!!) And dinner in Dec 2006 was fab too!! We were very pleased with this restaurant. :)

We did not like Kona all that much. The service was not good. Slow and not what I would expect. The food was just ok. Nothing to really speak of. Will we ever go back? Maybe down the road, but we dont have any plans to do so.

Their Tonga Toast is excellent for breakfast, and the dinner entrees are good, but Kona's lunch is also worth an ADR. We had lunch there on our last trip.

It's all good!

It was the worst restaurant of my whole free dining trip.

My daughter never get her appetizer (had to ask twice), my son was given his appetizer but no fork. He sat there and looked at his food. We let the waitress know and she just grabbed a fork off another table. We never got a "dessert" tour-- the menu was just thrown on our table

Food was so slow-- and it we wound up talking to a manager about it. (One of the strolling managers throughout the restaurant).

We complained and the manager wound up taking care of us the rest of the dinner. We even asked for the tip to be removed from her bill!

New appetizer (we tried it last week)

Pork Belly on a small bed of lettuce with edamame (Japanese soy beans)
VERY GOOD
smoked? asian seasonings.
hard to describe, but if you like pork -- give it a try!

I can't believe when I read how many people, including myself just love the Mahi Mahi that they would remove it from the menu. :confused3 We are booked here for late November and have been so looking forward to the Mahi Mahi, but think I will look for somewhere else.

So after reading the most underrated restaurant thread I thought I'd give it a try. I've been trying for weeks to get into Ohana's but nothing was open. I called this morning and got ADR's for this Sunday at 6:45. Made me a little nervous that it was that easy. Is Kona a good restaurant? What should I stay away from?

time for a kona bump.:coffee:
