Kona Cafe has the distinction of serving some of the best meals I have eaten at Disney, and also, one of the worst. I have skipped it the last couple of visits. Has anyone eaten there this summer? How was it?

Should I give Kona Cafe another try or visit some place new, like Raglan Road?

Thanks for any advice! :goodvibes

I ate at Kona in June.....had the Teriyaki Steak....may be the best steak on property. We loved our meal there.

Didnt eat there this summer, but last October and the food was to die for! We had the sushi, sticky wings, two terryaki steaks, cheesecake, and the chocolate fondue. I honestly can not wait to eat here again. I do have to admit though our server was very short with us, and kinda rude. She didnt get the biggest tip due to this, and felt like she needed to tell us off. So although the food was amazing, service was terrible.

Wondering what you ordered the last time that was the worse.... If you like steak, the teriyaki one is so wonderful and the creme brule was fantastic... Give it another try I say....:thumbsup2

We've had lunch (not dinner) at both on the DxDP (apps,, entrees, desserts). We liked Raglan Road better. The apps were really good - they have a great fritto mixto app with calamari and veggies that was delish. The Ger's Pudding lived to all the hype. Only problem with Raglan is that the food was less healthy - more fried type of stuff. Kona was good and healthy (lots of nice veggies), but it didn't feel special or particularly wow. I feel I could have gotten that Kona stir fry anywhere.

I can't address the food, but Raglan Road has a good, fun vibe to the place.

Yes she told us off about the tip, since she was never at our table and was always pretty snippy we tipped her I think 10-12 percent of the bill. Usually we do more, but we were not about to tip high for bad service. lol

Always had good luck with the food at Kona, but the atmosphere(and drinks) at Raglan is much better. Food's right up there as well.

We love Kona! One of the best restaurants at Disney! We've never ate at the Raglan Road because we have one close to home. We try to eat at places we can only eat at when at Disney.

At Kona my favorite entree is the pomegranite pork chop. It tastes delicous, one of my favorites on property.

prefer Raglan Road for dinner, Kona has one of the best breakfast options though, for my money.

Wow this just blows my mind! And to the OP i read this because i was trying to decide between these two also. Reading to see what people say about each.

Wonder if she still works there. I waitressed for 10 years and had never seen anyone approach someone over their tip. Seems people tip really good on these forums but coming from a server i never seen it and neither have my coworkers. Maybe only at Disney?? And i feel i have to earn that tip not just demand it. I agree i tip on service not on the amount of my bill. Sounds like she should have been happy with the 10%! Better than nothing. :thumbsup2

The Kona Cafe meal that was one of the worst I have ever had was at lunch time in December 2008. I originally ordered the Fish Tacos (and I was so looking forward to them). There was definitely something wrong with the fish. There was a fishy smell before I even picked up my fork. I did take a bite, and the fish tasted bad. So I immediately exchanged it for a club sandwich (I thought that seemed safe), and the server was so nice about everything. The sandwich came out quickly, but it tasted lousy. The bread was stale. The tomatoes were mealy. The meat was wet and slimy.

I didn't want to send back two meals, so I just left it on the plate. I almost never send food back (maybe a couple of times in all my 44 years). I sent the fish tacos back, because I wanted to alert the kitchen in case something was wrong. But the lousy club sandwich didn't seem dangerous, just unappetizing. So we left and that was that. I cannot remember what my sister ordered, but she didn't particularly like it either. We ended up cancelling our dinner reservation for later in that trip, and we haven't been back since.

It was disappointing, because in 2002, 2003, and 2006, I had some of the best lunches and dinners EVER at the Kona Cafe.

I can't really vote on this, b/c we have only eaten at Kona. (several times) Always enjoy it, although I will totally concur that the service is very snooty. These servers think they are at a signature apparently and haven't gotten the memo that they need to earn their tips. But the food has always been great. (IMO)

We are hoping to try RR on our upcoming trip, but i'm really curious about this "entertainment". Can somebody elaborate??? How loud is it? Is it inappropriate for young children (4, 8 & 10)?

Thanks in advance :thumbsup2

It's Irish dancing and singing. It can be very loud, def not inappropriate for children, just loud if they won't like that. I believe the dancing doesn't start until after 8 p.m. and they do have one night a week off but I can not remember that night at the moment.
