I can't decide between Kona Cafe and Ohana. Can someone help me? I'm bleary eyed from reading descriptions from every disney website in existence. I want some real folks' opinions. If it helps, I have 2 kids: DS 11 ans DD 7. What should I do? Which is better? Thanks.

Although I LOVE KONA ... 'Ohana will be better for the kids. Here's what DH and I liked (and disliked):

'Ohana - atmosphere was fun for kiddos and adults alike. There are coconut races and a sing-along. Food was plentiful and good. We loved the shrimp, wings, potatoes, veggie and dessert. We didn't like the won tons, sauces for dipping or the grilled meats! :scared1: (they are noted for the grilled meats but I didn't like!) - but we were full, happy and had a great time! (I am not sure if a separate children's menu available - we did not have any so check the menu)

Kona - loud - acoustics bad - but relaxed and casual atmosphere. Nothing special for the kids. If I remember the standard kids menu - macaroni ... etc... We enjoyed the steaks. Desserts were fabulous. We have eaten there three times - tasted the mahi mahi also and it was good. All the appitizers were delicious and the steaks cooked perfectly. So you see I love Kona for the food but the atmosphere was great at 'Ohana.

Service at 'Ohana - rather indifferent but I've had worse. Service at Kona - always excellent.

I hope this helps. No matter which you choose, you will enjoy walking the Polynesian grounds and depending on timing, enjoying Wishes from the beach if you can!

With Kids go with 'ohanas. Fun for them, and the food is not bad. Kona food is better, more choices, but the atmosphere is more family friendly at "ohanas

I'd go with Kona for the great food. We did not like Ohanas. Good luck!:)

My family and I really enjoyed Kona Cafe. We thought the food was very good and the desserts were delicious! :goodvibes

I agree, on Ohana, the kids will really enjoy the atmoshere and the activities. Kona has great food. If your going to eat dinner and you like fish, may I suggest the macadamia mahi mahi, mmmmm, deelish!!! (yup, I got it from Rachel Ray, lol). I miss my banana creme brulee though :sad2:
And on Ohana's I miss the grilled tiger shirmp on the skewer.

DON'T hesitate. With kids,Ohana. Without, Kona.
Last year I had the same "problem", couldn't decide between them and chose Kona because of the great reviews.
And yes, the food was excellent, but.. I went with DH and my 2 kids, 7 & 5. The waiter was very polite but somewhat uptight. He even said to my kids "Don' run".. very polite as I said, but it makes us feel a little uncomfortable. Before, whilst we waited for our table, DH looked at Ohana and told me why I didn't chose that one!! (even thought that I asked him to help me chose, but you know husbands...).
Anyway, you know your kids better, but if they are as any normal kids, choose Ohana. You won't regret it.

I actually loved both places and did both on our last trip. However, with kids Ohana is much more fun for them. My kids loved doing the hula and being able to just have fun. I would go with Ohana because of the kids. Have fun!

O'hana's.....the kids will have a lot of fun......if you go for breakfast, the characters are there, if you go for dinner, there's an interactive part for the kids....a lot more fun.....

We did both last year, and we're doing both this year too. If I had to choose one, I'd consider what type of experience you and your family want for that evening. Do you want creatively prepared food in a quieter atmosphere? Or do you want lots of food served quickly with a silly Disney theme and atmosphere?

Remember, if you're at 'Ohana the kids can get the Kona kids' meals brought over to them if they don't want to eat the 'Ohana food, so the food options for the kids are irrelevant, too.

We like both about equally but for different reasons.

I don't know what I'd do without the "real" advice from the "real" folks on the DisBoards. Thanks again.:goodvibes

We just ate at Kona on Friday and enjoyed it very much. I didn't order a meal, just a few appetizers, the Chicken soup, the Pot stickers and a Kona salad. All were good.
