Kona cafe help

You all are making me hungry!

We've got ADRs for our upcoming trip. They are late for us, so I'm pretty sure we are going to just have appetizers and maybe dessert :)

I have a dinner res. for Kona Cafe and have never eaten there. Does anyone have opinions, advice, etc.? Thanks

We just ate there on Sunday. BEST MEAL I EVER HAD AT WDW!!!!!!!!!!!!

I took the advice of a waiter there and ordered the ginger crusted rib-eye steak........BLOWS AWAY the steaks at Turf Club (NY strip) and Les Chefs de France (Tenderloin) by a VERY WIDE MARGIN.:thumbsup2:cool1::love:

All of us cleaned our plates totally! Very very delicious food. The Banana/ chocolate cream brule is simply out of this world.

All these great reviews make me feel so much better too! I had booked Kona when I couldn't get an ADR for dinner at Ohana. I was afraid we'd all be staring longingly at Ohana throughout our meal. Sounds like this should be a fantastic dinner.

One question though, since Kona is less crazy than Ohana I am assuming that it is more likely we'll be seated quicker, and closer to our ADR time? I know it can take FOREVER to get seated at Ohana. We've got MVMVP that night with a 5:20 ADR at Kona. I'm hoping to be at MK for the beginning of the party at 7pm. Thoughts?

I've only eaten there for lunch and the portions were really big, especially for the price.

If I were you I would be at the MK gates right at 4 instead of waiting for the party to start. They will let you in then with the party tickets and I would want to take advantage of the extra 3 hours that won't cost you any more. Because of that I would move my Kona reservation up to 2:45 or 3 but that is just me.

If you really don't want to go that early I think you will be safe with a 5:20, just get there 15 or 20 minutes early and keep an eye on the clock while you eat and socialize.

I totally agree and would love to do this if my kids were older. But with a three year old, I think our time is better spent napping in the afternoon in preparation for a late night.

Thanks for the answer though, I was hoping we wouldn't waste too much time waiting to be seated!

We've eaten there 2x. My dd(12) loves the place. she swears by the desserts. My BF loves it for the steaks. :surfweb: I'm personally not a fan of the place... everything I've eaten there has been take it or leave it /no big deal. Maybe I am just ordering the wrong stuff.... :headache:

My wife ordered the coconut/almond crusted chicken with kona salad.......it was SPECTACULAR!

As I have said, the Ginger crusted Ribeye is BY FAR the best Steak I have had at WDW, and pretty much ranks up there with the best I have ever eaten.:cheer2::love:

I cannot speak about the merits of arriving at the Magic Kingdom early for the Halloween party, but I can tell you that you won't have to wait long at Kona with a reservation. It's nothing like 'Ohana. With a 5:20 ADR, you should be finished with your meal early enough to reach the park by 7.

The BBQ pork chop is delicious...it better still be on the menu when I head back in September 2011!

Enjoy your meal! :goodvibes

Loved the coconut almond chicken! YUM! I had the crab cakes for appetizer and they were just ok, wouldn't get them again. Dh loved the Kona salad.

It's been quite a few years since we've had dinner there, but it was good. However, do have breakfast there a lot, mostly because my wife loves the Kona coffee. The breakfast is good, too. We had breakfast there last week and really enjoyed it.

During a six person family trip to disney in May 2010 my 15 year old and I went for a mother-daughter dinner at Kona (we called that afternoon and got late dinner reservations. It was lovely because we bussed to Magic Kingdom and then took a boat to the Poly, and we got to stop on the water and watch Wishes and then continue on to dinner)

I got the teriyaki New York Strip and it was WONDERFUL. She got the kona cone for dessert and I got the fondue. I told my DH that when we go back in 2012, we have to make sure we all eat there. We had totally overlooked it when making our ADRs but I won't make that mistake again!

(We ended up there because we'd gone to the Space Center for the afternoon, and thus didn't want to waste a park day for dinner, so I basically called up the reservation line and asked where they could squeeze us in at a resort.)

Is there bread on the tables at lunch, too, or is it only for dinner service?

Lunch is much better than dinner but you cannot get the bread at lunchtime.

I would rather eat at GFC or the Wave than Kona for dinner

We're having a problem with Kona. DW wants to do Kona at night instead of breakfast since Ohana is booked up during our next trip. I know, however, that if she doesn't get her Tonga Toast I will hear about it. Would you suggest 2 Kona reservations, one for dinner and one for breakfast. The dinner one would be on the dining plan and breakfast would be cash. Please let me know what you think.:surfweb:

You can have the best of both worlds by keeping the dinner reservation if you'd like to eat there. Why? Because Tonga Toast is available at Captain Cook's, the quick service eatery at the Polynesian resort. You would not need a breakfast reservation at all if your primary focus is Tonga Toast.

I would have ZERO problems eating at Kona twice during a stay.

In fact, I could eat there each night and do WPE for lunch.....that would be A-OK with me.:cool1::thumbsup2:love:

We had a wonderful dinner at Kona Cafe on July 31. Almost everything was delicious, especially the pomegranate BBQ pork chop. Teriyaki NY strip steak was a close 2nd. Tuna Oscar was the only disappointment of our evening.

The desserts were all fabulous, and it was hard to say which one was better than another. The Kona Cone looks really fancy, but the WOW factor there is presentation; it is ice cream in a cone with cotton candy and some toppings (presented in a fun and exciting way). We found the really amazing, original desserts were the banana creme brulee, the kiki tart and the white chocolate cheesecake. If you're interested, you can follow the link in my signature to a more detailed review.

Have a great time!

We had breakfast and dinner there on our last trip and of the two meals, vastly preferred dinner. I should confess that we didn't actually try any entrées, though. We split two appetizers, a sushi roll and the banana crème brûlée between the two of us and it was quite a satisfying and tasty meal. I think that the sweet Hawaiian bread with honey macadamia nut butter and the sushi bar are probably the two best things about the café, so I think their dinner is a total win.
