Was curious if anyone knows how the french toast is prepared? I know the Tonga Toast is sour dough in sugar and cinnamon. I loved it as a kid many many many moons ago, with no bananas. I don't see the option on the menu with no bananas anymore. Is the regular french toast just ordinary french toast or Tonga Toast without the bananas? If not does anyone know if you can still get it without bananas? Having breakfast at the Poly for the first time in about 20 years and was looking forward to an old favorite.

Now one last thing can anyone tell me what use to be in the (i believe this was the name) King Kamehameha breakfast? All I know is as a kid I got it once as a gag, it was the biggest breakfast I'd ever seen in my life. I remember the waitress saying no one had ever finished one to that point.

Well, Tonga Toast is, as our server amusingly (but not inaccurately) put it, "half a loaf of bread". So I doubt they would make it, and I doubt anyone would WANT them to make it, without some moisture in the middle (aka bananas). I would imagine the french toast is normally sliced bread. :)

Thanks, but I know they did have it without. I Had it many of times on trips in years gone bye. Maybe they've changed it and they only do it wit, but your assumption is wrong that no one would WANT it because I do and it use to be on the menu without bananas.

Does anyone know for sure?

you can get the Tonga without the bananna and the regular french toast is made with sourdough bread and then dipped and grill fried.

If you like French toast, then try taking 1-1/2" slices of French bread, cut a little pocket in the side. Spoon in about 1T of jam or jelly, along with 1T of cream cheese. Dip in egg/milk and then fry. Sprinkle powdered suger over it. We like using apricot jam. Yum.

we've had the Big Kahuna...the french toast was just OK on that platter -- nothing special, not the best french toast by a long shot. Would not make a special trip to Kona just to get that french toast...However, the rest of the platter is excellent...and the macadamia nut pancakes on the platter are :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2
