Does anyone know if it is possible to substitute the French Toast on the Big Kahuna Breakfast for Tonga Toast? Don't care if it costs more, just wanted to see if it was possible.

Thanks!

You can ask, but I doubt it because the Big Kahuna has regular french toast and the Tonga Toast is much more elaborate. I don't know, but maybe you can order the Tonga toast without the breakfast meat for a lower price.

For that matter the pancakes with pineapple sauce and mac butter are not the same as the Macadamia-Pineapple pancakes listed as another entree. The pancakes for the Big Kahuna don't have mac pieces in them, just in the butter.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but is it allowable for just two to come in for breakfast and just split the Tonga Toast? I would feel bad that our bill would be low, but that tonga toast is just too much! Is there a charge for that?

You can order the same exact Tonga Toast at Captain Cook's. I imagine that it is probably less expensive since it is counter service, plus you will not have to feel bad about splitting it! :thumbsup2

No you can't substitute unless you get a CM that's willing to do that for you....but last year we did not. After seeing the Tonga Toast I could understand why....it's like a small loaf of bread LOL. We weren't even able to substitute a fruit bowl for something else....although I don't remember what it was exactly. We were paying OOP too, so it wasn't because we were on the dining plan or anything.

What we did do was get a breakfast meal, then we ordered the Tonga Toast meal as well and we split both :) That way we got to taste everything.

We'll have to remember that you can get it at Captain Cook's.....we enjoyed it (I ate around the banana filling though).

Are you sure it is exactly the same? Do they have that raspberry sauce as well?

yes you can and there is no charge for sharing

The Tonga Toast at Kona is the same at Captain Cook's, but they just don't have the strawberry compote at the counter service.

The strawberry compote was my favorite part of the Tonga Toast. I wonder if Captain Cook's has the macadamia nut pancakes as well?? My sister ordered those for breakfast and they were super yummy. Next time I will have those myself.

Also, the Lilikoi juice was so delicious my mom found a similar recipe and now makes it at home! It isn't exactly the same but pretty close.

No macadamia nut pancakes at Captain Cook's and no strawberry compote for the Tonga Toast there either. To get both those things, you'd have to go to Kona.

I've been wondering about the amount of Kona coffee in the press pot that's supposed to serve two. I'm the only coffee drinker in my group, but I've heard it's awesome and I'd really love to try it. But, I'd hate to leave half of it undrunk for $7.49. If it's, like, 16 ounces I can handle it. Anybody know?

The press pot is wonderful! I consider it 2 decent size cups of coffee. DW and I share it every trip.

Well that's disappointing but not unexpected. Thanks everyone.

When we went to Kona for breakfast I got the pressed pot and since my husband HATES coffee our server gave me a to go cup to take the rest along!

Yea, I'm not a huge coffee drinker but I finished the whole press pot with our breakfast last year. My husband had a small cup but he said it made his heart race? He's scared to eat at Kona now LOL.....we have a reservation for October though. He said he'd just keep it simple and avoid the coffee.

Yes, you could split the Tonga Toast at the Kona Cafe. My dh and I are not big eaters and we will often order one meal and split it. Don't feel bad, just make sure to leave a decent tip.

I have to say that I've had the Tonga Toast at Capt. Cook's and at the Kona Cafe, and I was not pleased with what I got at Capt. Cook's at all. It was thinner, not prepared as well (greasy, overdone) and (as stated by previous posters) didn't have the strawberry compote.
