Kohl's: what tricks do you have up your sleeve next?

Bought some towels there that were 40% off. Started taking the price tags off at home and there were new tags over the old ones. The new ones were about 25% over the original prices. We're through with them.

I noticed this a few years back when I was buying picture frames, I was redoing the living room so I was frame shopping. The same frame and brand was $9.99 and both Kohls and BBB, only Kohls was on sale for 50% (19.99 to 9.99) and at BBB I could use my 20% off coupon to get the frame for $8. I noticed the same thing shopping for my DS so I have pretty much quit going there.

I usually shop at Kohl's one day a year. Black Friday and that's with checking the ads the few weeks before to actually make sure I'm getting a good price. Same thing with JCpenny.

One of my friends is a coupon queen and a sales shopper. She spends a lot of time and effort finding the absolute best price. I ask her advice before I buy anything because she knows how to do it. She NEVER goes to Kohl's because she says it's a rip off. It's one of those places where they mark up the price 50%, put a sign on it that says 25% off and people think they're getting a bargain. She said they count on people who don't do the research or the math and simply respond psychologically to the SALE sign.

Their "sale" prices are off MSRP which no store ever uses. I used to get all my clothes at Kohls (men's) but now I shop elsewhere. The quality and sizing of Kohl's is far inferior

The summer of 2010, I brought six short sleeve polos for my dh and my oldest son. very basic colors, black white & red. great price $6.99 I washed the shirts after the first wearing and the shirts all shrunk an easy 2 sizes. Blacks looked as if they were 4 years old, grey & faded. Ok no problem take them back thinking I got an "off" lot, exchange for a brand new set. instead of black I try a purple color. after first wash same thing. shirt shrunk, color faded and 1 shirt lost 2 buttons.

Now some times a bargain is not a bargain, if I have to replace a shirt after the first wash my supposedly 7 dollar bargain is now at 14 bucks.

I'll pass. rather pay for the quality then have to replace the same stuff after 1 month, year after year.

DFi and I registered at Bed Bath and Beyond for Fiesta dishes. One 4-pc. place setting...$28.99.

However, they didn't have one of the colors we wanted. Kohls had it, though...for $50.

My mother managed to get 2 of them for us today - at least she was able to use her 30% on top of the "sale" price, paying $49 for 2 place settings.

Fiestaware prices drive me crazy. Dillards regularly sells a set for $25, but they don't care the one I want (4 pc place setting) in the store. Belk, Kohls, etc. all charge the MSRP of $50 (which isn't even what you pay on the manufacturer's own website).

When shopping at Kohls, I don't compare their sale prices to their regular prices. I compare their sale prices to prices at other stores. So I'm not going assume a top is a great bargain just because it's half off. I'm going to compare it to tops of similar quality I've seen at other stores and decide if it's a good price.

......and when you check out they have the nerve to say, "You saved $84.00 dollars today."

Another place that I never buy from unless I have a coupon or half off sale is Hobby Lobby. They do the same thing.

I mainly shop their clearance racks, and always with coupons. I was there last week and I got my dd, a pair of jeans, a pair of capris and 6 shirts. My one ds I got a pair of jeans and 4 shirts, and my other ds a pair of shorts and a shirt for $140. Not bad at all for all those clothes.
I'm going up today to use my $10 off $10 coupon on some new bedding and will be earning some Kohls cash too. As long as you know how and what to shop for at Kohls you can find good deals.

.

Shaws Grocery Store does this too. It's just silly, because they act like I should be happy to be saving 'so much'. Well I wouldn't have bought it if it wasn't on sale ;)

My sister wants these dishes. They had 4 four piece settings for $99 a few weeks ago. I was able to use the 30% off coupon with it. I thought that was a fantastic deal.

I don't like the quality of Kohls clothing so I don't buy it.

As for K cups, I think they have gone up in price everywhere!

Yes, coffee prices have dramatically gone up in the last month or so.

That makes me roll my eyes. :lmao:

I love Kohl's but like everywhere you have to know the prices and the sales.
I've always gotten great deals there and do know when to buy certain items.

Exactly. I do great at Kohls. I never ever buy anything full price or without a coupon.

Me too. I know what prices are good. All the stores do this stuff these days.

Oh yeah, kohl's is notorious for jacking up their prices and putting them "on sale" which just puts them back to what the prices SHOULD be. I rarely shop at kohl's anymore. My DH likes them to get his button-downs and ties for work, but I never shop there for myself.

Kohls marks up all their prices and then puts them on "sale" to make it look more appealing. I used to love shopping there until I realized I was getting ripped off!

I shop at Khols some for myself but alot of stores do this. DD loves Justice and we get most of her clothes from there. The 12 1/2 size jeans fit her perfectly and they're hard to find in other stores. Old Navy has them but they're way too low!
I would NEVER go in Justice without that 40% off coupon though. There's no way I'm paying $40 for a pair of jeans for a 10 year old or $30 for a top but the coupon brings it down to normal price.
I agree that the girls clothes at Khols are a little on the trashy side too. Justice has styles that she and I can both agree on :thumbsup2

No complaints here, like many stores you just need a watchful eye :goodvibes. Live near mall, so shop at ours frequently - often we get lucky! :thumbsup2

Priced a particular pair of New Balance shoes I wanted at several stores and Khol's had the best price ~ @$66. w/30% sale = $46. HELLO! They're so comfy and my feet are happy campers. ;)
DH got a nice pr of $65 close out sandles he really likes $15.! Wed. gives us another 15% senior discount and we also like $10. Kohl's Cash for evey $50 spent. Works for us! :goodvibes

I see they've introduced Jo Lo and Mark Anthony's collections ~ whatever ~ just seems lil odd now that they're seperated! :rotfl2:

Not the same at all, if you're referring to Shaw's Supermarkets/Star Markets (conceding that Shaws Grocery Store could be entirely unrelated. I know of no supermarket chain that raises or obfuscates its regular prices simply to make it appear that the sale prices are a good deal.

Kohl's has great jeans and shoes and underthings so I like them. I don't see that they are any more expensive than other stores that sell the same items.
