Kohls Bill Question...

We NEVER pay our bills late EVER, but by mistake, we misplaced and forgot about our Kohl's bill in November (for our October purchases).

I figured it out only three days late and called them to tell them I had mailed it late (but in full), and to try and get the late fee removed off of our next bill. They agreed, and when our December bill (for November purchases) came, it had the adjusted "late fee", and something like $1.25 in interest, plus our purchases. We paid the full amount on time.

We got our January bill yesterday (for our December purchases) and it also has another $1.25 or so interest charge.

I'm not familiar with this, but are we STILL paying an interest fee because we were late to pay in November, so they started charging interest in the new billing period? Or does it sound like a mistake?

Sounds like they are carrying over the fianance charge from last month. Or was it another $1.25 charge. You can register online with Kohl's and see your bill/account statements.
I actually like doing it this way. Kohl's allows you to make a certain payment a month if you carry over from month to month. They don't charge you an interest if you pay that certain amount they require.

My wife closed our Kohl's account after getting sick of getting hit with late fees even when she mailed the payment a couple of days within getting the statement in the mail! Apparently, their processing department basically can take as long as they want to open the mail and process the payment and it's "tough noggies" for us.

My guess is that the PP is correct, the amount due is interest on the waived late fee.

I dropped their cc and never have gone back after hitting a later fee which I called about before hand explaining the possible problem. they said they understood, check numbers messed up So long story short it happen they charged a huge fee I called again. They said they would get back to me never did, so I paid and never will go back.

The way I understand it, if you don't pay your bill on time, then you no longer get a grace period on new purchases. So when you paid your bill late, you had already accumulated finance charges on the next month's purchases.

So I will ALWAYS have to pay an interest rate now? That's ridiculous!

Did you pay the interest on the December statement? Maybe it was a carry over. Call Kohl's and they will straighten everything out. FWIW, I think we pay our bill electronically and have never had a problem.

Not ridiculous...its their rule.

On the balance that existed before being late - yes, you now have to pay the interest. The 'grace period' of no interest on those purchases is valid ONLY if you make the minimum payment they require to keep the 'no interest'. If the payment was late then the grace period for no interest goes away too. They're pretty clear about that.

I dropped Kohl's when a friend went to pay her bill in store and had to pay extra to pay her bill in the store.

I pay my bill all the time in the store, I have never been charged extra. Now if Old Navy would let me pay the bill in the store I would be happy.

Can't you register it as one of your bills for your online banking and pay it that way? That's how we pay all of our bills. I can't imagine having to write a cheque and mail it in to pay a bill.

Yes that would most likely work, or you can do it directly through Kohls, that's what I did. There is a place that you can register as a user on the Kohls website and then you can log in and electronically pay your bill.

I pay my Kohl's bill online. Easy and quick. I've never heard of them charging to pay the bill in the store?

Agree.
We pay the bill in the store all the time and have never been charged extra (I also know people who work at Kohls and there is no extra charge - I’m quite certain that is not something that varies from state to state). You don’t have to even go back to the Service Desk to pay. You can do it at any register.
