I am not overly concerned with zoom, but just wanted to mention that the DX model had more total zoom (with a little more optical zoom included).

On second thought...should I be looking for more oomph in the digial zoom department? I see that Kodak also makes a 10x optical zoom. SO MANY CHOICES!! What's your experience with optical zooms, verchad?

I'd say go for more optical zoom. It increases the zoom based on what it actually sees. Digital zoom can make the picture grainy. You may not need it right now, but it will be there if you need it. If they will let you at the store, try taking a few pics with regular modes and zoomed all the way. Also if they will let you, see if they will print them or have examples of printed pictures at higher zooms. Regular stores like BB & CC might not let you do this but you can go to a camera specialty store to do more research.

I brought my own memory cards to Best Buy, took a bunch of pictures in the store, came home and loaded them on my computer and printed them. It's a nice way to compare, if you have the memory cards.

Two points on the Easyshare cameras:

1. Turn OFF the digital zoom if you want good print quality. You might not notice the loss of resolution on your computer screen, but you will notice fuzzyness if you make prints using the digital zoom - it is not a true zoom, but a computer program's extrapolation of what the image looks like.

2. For anyone considering these cameras who is a Macintosh user, the Easyshare software loades an iPhoto driver onto your Mac so with Kodak cameras, you just attach them via USB cable and the camera appears in iPhoto to download your photos. That is, if you love iPhoto, you don't need to use Kodak's software to use a Kodak camera on a Mac even though some Kodak's are not listed on Apple's website as compatible.

Hope this helps.

-I'm having the same dilemma as you-I keep reading the posts, reviews, etc, and can't seem to make that move to actually buy something. I keep throwing around the Kodak DX6440, DX7440(whixh I'm leaning towards) and the LS version. We're leaving for WDW on 10-30 and I have to make up my mind soon! I also have to figure on a memory card to get .
Do you have any idea what one does when their memonry card is full in Disney? Will the photo shops there put the pics on a CD- & is that what should be done?
The more I research, the more confused I'm making myself!
Go to BB today to play with the cameras.Good luck!

We love our DX 7440. It has a very fast trigger/shutter - i.e. almost no shutter lag - it is up to close to 1 second on some Canon's we considered - an eternity if you have kids.

If you buy the DX7440 online (see pricegrabber link below), you can buy it for $255 (including shipping), and spend the $50 you saved on a huge memory card (again, see links). For the same price as you'd pay at Best Buy, you get a nice sized memory card to boot.

Price grabber (DX7440 for $255 shipped from reputable dealer):

Memory Deal finder (512 MB for $50 shipped):

Good luck.

Hi, donkeysleuth. I know, it is hard committing to just one Kodak digital camera. I started saying to myself that I'd stick to not spending more than $250 on one. Then, I stumbled upon the Kodak DX7590 (over $400)!! HAHA. I'm going nuts!! To answer your question about a full memory card in Disney, I personally plan on taking at least 3 memory cards with me (all at least 256's) and once one is full, just leave it back at the room and go to the next. I also plan on carrying one of the extra ones on me at all times for backup.

I have decided to come back down to earth and all I really need are features offered with the 3 originals I have been looking at, the DX7440, LS753 and LS743. I hope someone is going to have a Columbus Day sale tomorrow on any of the 3 because I'm ready to buy and start learning how to use it! I even went ahead and bought 2-256 memory cards at zipzoomfly.com b/c they had a rebate offer on them which made it only $9 each! Brand was Kingston. How bad is that? Buying an accessory before buying the actual camera!

Turnerx5: what I really like about the DX7440 is the grip/handle on the right side that makes the camera feel more secure in your in hand. Thanks for posting those websites. Heading right there now to check them out.

Good luck to all of us!! :goodvibes

blondeqtip -

Kingston memory is not bad at all. One memory buying tip:

The DX7440 owner's manual specifically says it is not designed to use "high speed" memory cards (example: Sandisk "Ultra") - so don't waste your money on higher end cards if you go with this model, you will not gain any benefit. Don't know if this is true for other Kodak models.

Also, if interested you can download the users' manuals at the Kodak site if you want to check out user features in advance.

Cheers!

You know, I was wondering about that. All this digital camera stuff is so confusing! Thank you for the information. I really do like the looks, feel, and features of the DX7440. Heading over to look at Kodak's site to take a look at the manual (since the people at Best Buy are horrible about getting information on it).

Thank you!

We have a 6490 with the printer docking station. My wife really likes it because she can print pictures of our daughter and mail them to family without going somewhere and having to wait. It is worth it to us to be able to print those special pictures right there when we want them.

We love the 6490. My wife was not sure if she would like this particular model, but she really does now. I had to have the 10x optical zoom, plus, a few other features beat out the competion that I was looking at. This particular model felt better in my hands, too.

:)

DH and I just purchased a DX7440 about a month ago, in preparation for this upcoming trip. I was considering many of the same models that have been mentioned here.

We decided on the DX7440 for two reasons:

1. The 16 "scenes" which allow you to switch from Auto Focus to specific settings ideal for different situations (i.e. there is a fireworks setting, a setting for taking things in motion, a setting for shooting a subject where light is behind it, etc.) I have since tested several of these at home and they are really great to have. I'm already imagining atcual good fireworks photos at WDW. I usually take tons on my 35mm and pay for them - only to find out they look terrible. Here I think they will look good, and if not, I will just delete them.

2. We got the camera $50 off (sale at CC) with a free camera bag and extra battery.

If you are looking for cheap memory, try Zip Zoom Fly. A friend recommend the wbesite, and we purchased two 256 MB cards for $10 each (after rebate). Compared to $60 plus at CC.

I've heard lots of great things about the Easy Share system. I love it - good luck deciding!

I took the plunge and bought the DX6440-havent' had a chance to try it out yet. Seemed pretty simple in the store. Still have to get another memory card-I'll try ZipZoom -is there something speical I should look for-particular brand, etc?

I have a Kodak DX4530 with a Dock. I love the camera and the dock is great since the camera is always charged and ready to go. The rechargable battery lasts a long time. Manages taking over 125 pictures one day at MK (many at night parade and fireworks) and never got a battery warning. I decided against the print dock since I really needed a printer that would allow for bigger prints. (Got a hp 7960)

The DX4530 is a 5mp camera, I knew I would need the mp for future use. I was originally thinking about my scrapbooking, but now I'm planning on BIG baby pictures.

I have a Kodak EasyShare CX6330. Does anyone know how I can turn off my digital zoom. I can't go to that dpreview website message board, my email is not accepted. Anyone mind helping me? Thanks!
