Knowing how many animal lovers are on this board I just wanted to post this again. Hopefully it will help speak volumes for those who cannot. You can't deny pictures don't lie.

Hey I just wanted everyone to know that Oprah is doing a show this Friday, April 4th, Lisa Ling is going to be doing a segment on Puppy Mills!!!!! This is wonderful now so many more people will actually see what it is all about.

Aw I hate that. I live in the midst of "Amish Country" where people find it so quaint to buy a puppy from an Amish farm. The Amish folk can grow great vegetables....puppies, not so much :sad2: I think this is one of the most quickly expanding areas for puppy mills.

If you look at the one video of the auction thats who was doing most of the purchasing Amish!!! I know they can grow a mean veggie but they do not treat animals nice.

I feel so sorry for these dogs! I wish there were more strict laws to stop these puppy mills. We got our current dog from the pound and when we decide to get another we will go through a rescue.

And this is exactly why I posted this, just to bring awareness. I never knew that it was so bad for these dogs until I adopted a puppy mill rescue and started reading and learning about it. Thanks for reading my post :)

Thanks OP for posting! I just saw a Pedigree commercial last night about shelter dogs. My heart aches for all the animals sitting in kill shelters. I have voluteered with the local Humane Society in the pass and most recently I was fostering for a rescue.

Awesome post! :thumbsup2

My 3 long-haired Chihuahuas (sitting right here beside me now) were all rescued from horrific puppy mills. Anyone running one of those things should be shot on the spot. I have absolutely no sympathy for the "breeders" who run them.

Personally, I believe that anyone running any type of puppy mill should be made to sit/stand, if they can, inside a small cramped area for their life, eating what little scraps they are given, dirty water to drink and little to no medical attention. People might say, "Wow -- that would be so inhumane", but it is equally as inhumane for any animal to endure this as well.

Thanks again for this post! :thumbsup2

Your Welcome
I just want to keep this thread going

Ugh. I'm so glad I got to pass the info along to people when I worked at a certain well-known pet store for years. So many people call, or come in, asking if we sell puppies... :sad2:

But I took the opportunity to inform them why they should never, ever buy a puppy or kitten from a pet store :thumbsup2 Only adoption (such as we did on weekends), or from a legit breeder, if they have their heart set on a purebred.

So sad. And some people feel so bad, they buy the puppy in the window. Which just perpetuates the cycle.

I went into a local pet store, knowing full well I shouldn't have because I'd get so mad, and wouldn't you know they had puppies behind the glass. I asked the girl where they came from, and she told me "state licensed breeders". You could tell that was the 'official' answer she was told to give. They won't elaborate, except to add that these "licensed breeders" are checked randomly. Sure they are.

I have never bought an animal from a breeder, nor would I.

These puppy mills create false documents on the animals for unsuspecting buyers. Not one puppy mill rescue that I have has any sort of medical records that come with the fur baby when they were rescued. :sad2:

Heck, if I'm not a purebred, nor do I have "papers", then why should my fur babies? ;)

As far as I am concerned, those involved in puppy mills should be made to live in small, cramped dirty cages with filthy water to drink and food "only when it is convenient to feed them". Hey, that's how they treat the little fur creatures. But hey, someone would say, "Gee, that is so inhumane". Well . . . :rolleyes1

Here are my three rescues from a puppy mill . . .

Pebbles -- Four years ago she was rescued from a house of 300 dogs (yep, that's not a typo, folks) and it took a vet team and me over a month to get her back to health. It has taken me 3 years to get her to finally take a treat from some people's hands. To this day NO ONE can pick her up but me. Isn't she a doll?

Gidget -- Three and a half years ago I got this little darling. She was rescued from a house of 135 dogs. When I got her, she was light brown with dark brown spots. As you can see, she is really white with black patches! The run-off from her filth was incredible! It took months for the groomer and I to grow out and cut her urine-stained fur. Here is the little baby . . .

Meeko -- Yep, he's my man of the house! He was rescued from a house of 35 dogs. He weighed 3 1/2 pounds and was almost bald when rescued 3 years ago (he was full grown). He is now a healthy and happy 7 pound, fully coated cutie . . .

Now I'm not saying that my fur babies are spoiled or anything, but after their weekly baths and before I finish making the bed, I toss their blankets (freshly heated from the dryer, of course) onto the bed and they snuggle down. I love this picture . . .

I love my rescues! :flower3:

My mother recently rescued a Papillion, that was left to die in some woods in Missouri. She had been left with about five other dogs and it was determined that they had been dumped by a puppymill.

I guess their "usefulness" had been used up. :sad2:

I know of a rescuer who knows of a "puppy miller". She has worked it out that when should the puppy miller not "want or need" the dog anymore, then she will turn her over to this lady so the dog won't be dumped. Even though this puppy miller turns her stomache, at least she is helping animals from being dumped or worse.

I love your chi's!!! I have 3 chi's myself plus my mutt. I also use to work with 2 different chihuahua rescues. Taking a little break but I'm starting to get the itch to foster again but this time I'm looking at fostering American Eskimo's.
