Know San Diego - what would you do if you only had one day?

My DH and I will be in San Diego this weekend. We plan on the zoo/wild animal park for one day, but are not sure how to make the most of the other day. What would you not miss? Seaport Village, Old Town, Gaslamp district, etc.??

Any thoughts or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Hey there,

Have a great time on your trip - I love San Diego! Have you been there before?

The zoo and the wild animal park are two different things. The zoo is actually in San Diego, in the Balboa Park area. The Wild Animal Park is north of San Diego and a bit of a drive, I can't remember exactly but maybe an hour? Both are wonderful but if you have to chose between the two I'd recommend the zoo as it's a wonderful, world famous one and more convenient to get to! You could do one of these each day.

Note that the Wild Animal Park is located north of San Diego, near Escondido

You would NOT be able to do both of these in one day.

Or for your other day - hmmm, personally I don't think Old Town and Seaport Village are all day things - you could actually do both. I love Sea World - if you are interested in that at all.

Happy Planning!

I love San Diego! I would definitely go to Seaport Village and maybe take a boat ride on the bay. Another favorite spot of mine is Horton Plaza in downtown and Coronado. Whatever you do, you can't go wrong, it is a beautiful city.

I agree with the above poster that it is nearly impossible to do both the zoo and the WAP in the same day. Go with the zoo if you have to pick.
I have spent the morning and early afternoon at Sea World, and then Seaport Village in the evening, after dinner at Anthony's of course. You should also be able to do Old Town and Seaport Village in the same day. There is a great authentic Mexican resturant at Old Town that is out of this world great. I personally love being at Seaport Village as the sun is setting. OK, scrap trying to plan for WDW, I want to go to San Diego now!:sunny:

Thanks so much for your help! Nope, DH and I have never been to San Diego, so we are really looking forward to it.

I just assumed that the zoo and the wild animal park were next to each other. Good to have the right information! The zoo it is. We can save the wild animal park for another trip.

Thanks again!

Pat

For a one day trip I would suggest the Old Town Trolley Tour

If you like Mexican food, a meal at Casa Bandini in Old Town is great.

Please pm me if you want any information on San Diego.

You already named the one thing I would do, and that's the zoo. :)

Thanks everyone! Such great information!

The Old Town Trolley Tour sounds like fun. (They have a similar one in Boston...and we loved it.) Good way to cover lots of things.

LOL, WDWHound....we ARE going to be at Disneyland on Thursday afternoon and Friday, then heading down to San Diego for the rest of our trip!
