Know Before You Go Updated - May 17 - Testing rule changes

So basically my LO (2) needs a PCR done no more than 2 days prior the departure. Adults (fully vaccinated) need either PCR/Antigen?

Curious for adults who took J&J + Booster, do they still need a second booster to consider as "fully vaccinated"?

You don't need a second booster, no matter what your initial vaccine was.

Been reading this thread and thanks for all the great information. I have a quick question if you don't mind. We are flying in internationally and finding it difficult to get answers on the best place to test, you need to have an American address or cell number for a lot of places (that is if they even let yo on to the website). Does anyone have any strong opinion at just getting tested at the port? It may be slightly more expensive, but for peace of mind knowing we can get it there and then just walk into the ship it will be worth it. We are all fully vaccinated travellers.

TYIA for any answers or opinions!

While I haven’t used it yet, you should check check the OnPoint testing service. They offer virtual teleservice testing with with your own test kit and say they are global.

As for testing at port, there is some stress about going to the port and possibly testing positive. You then have to wait while they retrieve your luggage and have poor internet service at the port. If you can test before you leave your country or at a hotel in Orlando, you’d have better options to make other arrangements should you test positive.

Have you checked the airport? most have rapid PCR for all ages available because of the flight requirements.
I have not called our airport, but they didn't pop up during my hours of searching for a local rapid test. I will call and rule them out to make sure. I live in WV and many amenities are not available to us.

Your 2 year old's test can be done no sooner than 3 days before your cruise, and can be a NAAT, lab PCR or rapid PCR, and then they will get tested again at port. Vaccinated adults need the test done 2 days before (no sooner).

I got the J&J and a Moderna booster. Everything I have read says I don't need another booster, but I am nervous I am ready it wrong.

"Fully vaccinated" doesn't require any booster (first or second), even for the single-dose J&J. DCL only requires "fully vaccinated" not "up-to-date" for vaccination status.

Currently I'm planning to do an antigen test at local service in a mall that witnesses them. It was set up for the fit to fly for travellers so thats were I was going when the USA required it for entry. I'll get it done on the Saturday, I fly Sunday and cruise Monday. I'm hoping they will except that result, if not at least I know at point of travel I was clear.

They have the testing options at MCO although still havn't worked that out. But as I'll be using a shuttle bus to get to the resort I won't have time.

If they don't like my test result prior to arriving in the US then I'll be testing at the port once I get off the Disney transport.

This won't be till end of September so no idea if this will work.

The rule used to be fly in the day before and you are good. Today I would say fly in 2 full days before- especially if you want your luggage to also join you on vacation.
You're not wrong there. We had so many issues getting through the Toronto airport (connection from Winnipeg) that we had to RUN! We got yelled at in customs cause people let us ahead of them. Like w t f dude. #STRESSEDOUT Then WE made it to the flight but our luggage didn't. This is the day before the cruise. Our luggage arrived 10am the day of our cruise so needless to say we missed our early PAT but at least we got our bags and got to the ship!

Has anyone confirmed that their results are accepted by Disney Cruise Line?

These two posts by Mathmagicland further up in this thread, go through the process and confirm it was accepted.

Sharing the OnPoint Telemed Covid antigen testing process. It went very efficiently and smoothly! The tests are done through a Zoom video conference link.

You can use any FDA-authorized home self-test kit, so no need to wait for tests to arrive in the mail if you are short on time. We used the free tests that could be ordered from the government earlier this year. The current OnPoint Telemed cost is $14.99 per person and they will do a max of two people per appointment. Appointments are available in 15–minute increments any time day or night.

The process -

  • after the order is complete, you will get an email to book your appointment day and time. If this doesn’t arrive, give their customer service a call to push that email out again. The only time I’ve seen them fully booked for appointments was Sunday of Memorial Day weekend, when starting mid-morning they were fully booked until late in the evening. So try to plan ahead around holiday weekends.
  • The appointment process asks for a test location code, which is found in the confirmation email.
  • Use the patient info link in the appointment confirmation email to fill out your personal information ahead of the test time.
  • If you need to change your appointment (I had to do so due to some changes in our travel), it is easy to do with the change/cancel link in the confirmation email
  • They sent out a couple of reminder emails with the zoom link, one day before and one morning of the test.

On test day -
  • be logged into the Zoom call a few minutes early. Our proctor joined a couple of minutes before our start time.
  • Have the following info available: confirmation codes, which they use to find your appointment and patient info; unopened test kit; passport numbers which they include on the test results when the test is for travel; name of cruise line & ship, or airline if testing for a flight.
Once the session started, she asked for our confirmation numbers to find our appointment, verified our info, asked for test manufacturer, and then we started the test. She guided us through it a bit re how long to swab, to help ensure we’d get a clear result.

While we were awaiting the test results to show up on our test cards, she added our travel and passport info to her records for their test result paperwork. At about 10-11 minutes she asked to see our test cards. We each held up our test cards & she took screen captures to confirm the result. We were all finished in 15 minutes for the two of us.

The proctor said to allow 20 minutes for the results to be emailed but I got them right away, within a minute or two. The results came as both a link and a PDF. I uploaded the PDFs to our Safe Passage accounts because that was a more complete result report. She said if there were any errors on the paperwork, we could reply back to email and someone would get it corrected right away.

If you’ve never done a home self-test, I’d recommend doing one ahead of your proctored test so you are familiar with your test kit and the self-test process. It will make the proctored test go smoother.

Sharing an update re Safe Passage site after uploading our test results - we are showing Cleared to Sail, which means they accepted our test results report from OnPoint. We are on the 6/7 Dream sailing, the first sailing day for this new process of self-testing in advance.

We got emails when each of the test results were uploaded. We each got two emails 10 hours later - first advising the third party test results had been approved, and another email after all parties were approved showing our party is cleared to sail.

I will be busy the two days before the cruise, so I guess I have to wait and have Disney test me at the port. Only I get the pleasure of paying for the test x4 now. I can see how this change is good for some people, but I don't like it.

WV here too! When I did safe passage in April it accepted my vax card from my earlier cruise. Even though my vax card now reflects the booster, it seems just being fully vaxed only means the 1 JJ or the 2 Pfizer or Moderna. Btw, we did all of our vaccines at the Heath department here in the eastern panhandle of WV. We plan to do our second booster in August, a month before our September cruise. After our end of April cruise I did end up with covid, so it seems like a booster for us old folks would be a good choice before our next cruise. We plan to do the online testing with our free test kits we get from our insurance through cvs

If you are flying to an international destination and the experience with flights this summer is a nightmare, you will likely want to be sure to fly a few days earlier before your cruise.
How expensive is the DCL onsite testing?

From the DCL website - https://disneycruise.disney.go.com/why-cruise-disney/experience-updates/us/

Fully vaccinated Guests who do not upload pre-trip test results to the Safe Passage website by midnight prior to embarkation day will be tested at the terminal before boarding and will be charged for the cost of the test. The cost of embarkation tests for fully vaccinated Guests will be $74.00 (USD) plus tax for the initial antigen test, and, if needed, $125.00 (USD) plus tax for a confirmatory PCR test, charged at the time of service. For Canada sailings, the cost of embarkation tests for fully vaccinated Guests will be $95.00 (CAD) plus GST for the initial antigen test, and, if needed, $160.00 (CAD) plus GST for a confirmatory PCR test, charged at the time of service.

Disney's own site gives conflicting information on this. They say that if you do PCR, you can test 3 days before.

Not sure what is conflicting? Unvaccinated (under 5's) must have a PCR test, and that has to be sent overnight back to Inspire, so they have 3 days. Vaccinated guests can do the rapid antigen monitored at home tests, so they only have 2 days.

This is under the guidance for vaccinated guests, and indicates to me that vaccinated guests have the option of doing the PCR test to buy themselves a third day.
