I think I was bitten by a spider last night. I woke up in the middle of the night with a bump on my face and it was a little itchy. By this morning the area around the bite was very red and the center looks like a small blister. It's itchy and it hurts at the same time. I put some of that pink lotion stuff on it (Calamyne?) But it's not really helping. Anyone know what else I should be doing???

How big is it and does it seem to be getting bigger around it? I got bitten by a brown recluse and it was pretty bad. I ended up having to go to the E.R. because it just kept getting bigger and bigger. I would look up pictures online and see what it says. Some of them are just bothersome but some can be dangerous.

Ok, follow her advice before my lame suggestion. How bad did you get? :guilty:

When my DD was bitten by a spider last year, they told me to give her Benadryl and apply cortisone to the site. Her ear had swollen pretty badly, but it cleared up within 12 hours.

That said, you might want to check in with your doctor and see what he/she says. You might need an antibiotic if the site is infected. Feel better!

I'm debating going to an emergency clinic. We have one with a nurse practictioner down the road, or I could go to the ER but that is so expensive and who knows how long I would have to wait. The red area has definately gotten bigger.

Get to the ER. I just completed a CPR course and the fireman gave us some extra info covering snake and spider bites. On of the people in the class got bit twice by a brown recluse-she was treated immediately and received and anti venom shot. Recovery was still painful and long. My mom was bit by one (realized after the fact by the damage done). She ended up with a hole in her leg where the tissue died and the scar was pretty bad. I'm sure you don't want your face to look like my mom's leg. There were some pics floating around the internet (they were the same ones the fireman had) of this guys finger-it was truly disgusting. Take care.

Oh my!!!!!! Again!!! DISREGARD MY ADVICE ASH!

You should check this link out at Snopes. While they can't verify it, they can't say it's false either. I'd sent a few of my friends an email similar to this and told them while it can't be verified, it may be true. My girlfriend in Tennessee immediately called me and said her neighbor went thru the exact same thing. If this spider was a Brown Reclusive, you need to seek medical attention ASAP! Do not wait any longer!

I've gotten bit plenty of times, and the bite is itchy, red and has a little blister. And I can actually see two small puncture sites. :scared1:

It takes a couple of days to clear up.

ash i have experience with brown recluses as well,,, go to clinic, er, somewhere..lol. they are very dangerous.

Hi everyone. Just got back from the after hours clinic. She couldn't tell what kind of spider bite it was, but she said at this time it didn't look like a recluse bite. I got some cortizone cream, told me to take benedryl and got 5 days of antibiotics. She said that if it started to turn dark in the middle and ooze then I might have to come back.

I thought that brown recluse were mainly pretty much hidden- so you shouldn't reach your hand inside a dark drawer without looking first, for example. Is this thought incorrect? If it is correct, then it is unlikely that a brown recluse would walk around on somebody and bite them in bed. I have been bitten in bed twice by small spiders. The bites are painful and itchy. They were not as severe as what the OP described, however.

If it turns dark in the middle and oozes- thanks, that is valuable to know. Good luck. I hope you heal up quickly and without more discomfort.
