Knocking Down Mickey

I'm slightly disturbed that people find this funny. I completely understand that it was unintentional and watching a child be so excited is fun. However, taking a tumble in Mickey's "outfit" can likely cause injury, his head is very heavy.

While I don't think anyone got hurt in this picture, I agree, injuries can happen. I once got a call from a Universal employee looking for legal representation for a worker's compensation/labor dispute against Universal. Apparently, she was playing "Woody Woodpecker" and a child jumped on her feathers and caused a serious back injury. She told me that costumed characters at all the theme parks take big risks because the heads of the suits are very heavy and because they take so much abuse from children. One of the partners at my law office used to be Tigger, and confirmed that he routinely suffered bruises and other injuries from overexhuberant children.

Even more disturbing, the cast member at Universal told me that they were having serious problems with MRSA outbreaks among costumed characters because the costumes weren't being properly sanitized between wearings! Gross!

He was Upset for sure. It was totally unintentional, I can see why he was upset, sowe left.

We did not get a regular picture with Mickey, since we were asked to leave,we left. We really did not want to get thrown out of the park specially since the kid had tripped goofy a couple of days before at MGM during the parade. I have a picture of that episode as well. I assure you it was not a conspiracy. But we were really careful from then on with characters.

To the person who was not happing with me about taking the picture, let me just clarify I started towards Mickey to help him, but the cast member waved me off so I took the picture.
He tripped Goofy? Are you kidding?

Those heads are insanely heavy. While I was doing my CP, I routinely had to go to the Disney doctors for a worker's comp case. I overheard Donald on the phone about how "he" was there to get out of his Donald duties because his head was affecting his shoulders.

 if I knew my child got really excited about things like that, I'd keep a closer eye on him. I'd be mortified if my kids did this accident or not. Also, I'd think that ny me taking pictures, it's be rewarding the child for not being more careful. JMO

One time I can see it being an accident. Twice, and both time with pictures, I dunno. Call me a skeptic.

I guess I'm uptight, because I would be mortified if my kid or anyone else in my party knocked down a character or cast member. I would take it personally that I wasn't doing my job (controlling my child). Of course, accidents happen, but if it happens twice in one visit...? :confused3

Hey I agree with you. But remember, I am not the parent. At Disney I have the camera ready, and finally there were accidental for sure, that what was so weird about it.

I have a weird humor fetish. I crack up when I see people in large animal/mascot/charactor costumes doing funny things like falling down. I don't want anyone hurt but I do laugh hysterically at the sausage races during Milwaukee Bewer's baseball games (where everyone's a weiner :rotfl: ). I also laugh my head off at those Japanese game shows that dress people up in mascot costumes and they go tumbling down a hill.
Yeah, maybe the kid in these pictures is a little big to be running up full force into Disney charactors but the picture of Mickey on the floor had me laughing. Shame on me but I can't help myself.

I guess my feelings are that if I were there, parent or not, the last thing running through my mind when seeing a character tripped or knocked down is getting a picture. The first thing I'd do is try to help and then apologize profusely for my relative who did it....twice. I hope he finally learned his lesson about being careful and doesn't have the accident happen a third time. I can't help but notice the smiles on the kids faces in the pictures. They don't look concerned at all...or apologetic. JMHO

::yes:: I would be mortified as well. I don't think it's funny because there is a real person in there. And twice in one trip? After the first time, we would have had a Greeting Characters 101 chat.

:sad2: Poor Mickey. They're just laying there waiting for someone to pick them up (and probably a little shocked too). We usually let our kids walk up to the characters on their own. So, we can stand back to take photos and let them get their autographs. I can easily see how this could happen. Below is a picture of DS2 with Pooh. If he weighed more, he probably would have knocked over poor Pooh:

Does this kind of thing happen often to your nephew? What I'm trying to say is...does he get in trouble often? For this to happen twice is quite an "accomplishment".

Wow .....this was not the intention I had for this post at all. Just wanted to see out of the ordinary pictures. However since you mentioned kids faces, I realized I should have not posted my nephews pictures without consent so I am removing the picture.

Something similar happened with my daughter who was 3 and Ariel at Akershus. (Sorry no picture) Ariel was leaving for the evening and our waitress asked if she would like to give her a hug goodnight. The waitress took Jacie by the hand and walked her to Ariel who was about 4 tables away. Ariel was bent down with her arms out. The next thing we see was piles of tulle, Ariel's feet in the air, and my DD on top of her. :rotfl: I was MORTIFIED but couldn't help laughing. I apologized over and over again. The waitress was also laughing and said that she had never seen anything like that before.

Things happen. :confused3: My child knows better but was caught up in a very exciting moment. She still tends to get over excited. We have to remind her to calm down.

Okay, I commented before there was two different occasions mentioned. I just got a chuckle out of the first one because I assumed the child was that happy to see Mickey that he knocked him over giving him a hug or something.
I did not think it was funny Mickey was on the ground. I just got a chuckle about a kid being that excited.

oh geesh, people lighten up. its funny because its real and it is out of the norm. im sure no one actually thinks people getting hurt is funny, but there is humor in life. americas funniest home videos built an entire show around it.

I hate that show. And I think 99% of it is staged.

I think that show is ridiculous. The one time I watched it, I realized I'd never get that hour of my life back. :rotfl2:
