I'm slightly disturbed that people find this funny. I completely understand that it was unintentional and watching a child be so excited is fun. However, taking a tumble in Mickey's "outfit" can likely cause injury, his head is very heavy.
While I don't think anyone got hurt in this picture, I agree, injuries can happen. I once got a call from a Universal employee looking for legal representation for a worker's compensation/labor dispute against Universal. Apparently, she was playing "Woody Woodpecker" and a child jumped on her feathers and caused a serious back injury. She told me that costumed characters at all the theme parks take big risks because the heads of the suits are very heavy and because they take so much abuse from children. One of the partners at my law office used to be Tigger, and confirmed that he routinely suffered bruises and other injuries from overexhuberant children.
Even more disturbing, the cast member at Universal told me that they were having serious problems with MRSA outbreaks among costumed characters because the costumes weren't being properly sanitized between wearings! Gross!

). I also laugh my head off at those Japanese game shows that dress people up in mascot costumes and they go tumbling down a hill.
I would be mortified as well. I don't think it's funny because there is a real person in there. And twice in one trip? After the first time, we would have had a Greeting Characters 101 chat.
Poor Mickey. They're just laying there waiting for someone to pick them up (and probably a little shocked too). We usually let our kids walk up to the characters on their own. So, we can stand back to take photos and let them get their autographs. I can easily see how this could happen. Below is a picture of DS2 with Pooh. If he weighed more, he probably would have knocked over poor Pooh:
DH hates it because there is ALWAYS an obligatory hit to a man's !@#$%^ Ouch!
