Knocking Down Mickey

Wow .....this was not the intention I had for this post at all. Just wanted to see out of the ordinary pictures. However since you mentioned kids faces, I realized I should have not posted my nephews pictures without consent so I am removing the picture.

I don't think glitterkitty's point was about you posting your nephews picture but more that your nephew was smiling in the picture......well beyond the initial excitement of seeing Mickey...as poor Mickey laid on the ground with (possibly) the wind out of him - because you said you tried to "help" but the CM told you to leave - and then you go ahead & take a picture?

I know we all have different points of views & I like corny humor as well as silly things done by characters, but seeing a character lay on the ground with their arms to the side and a knee up like that trying (IMO) to get their breathe back is not funny at all to me - but I could be in the minority here.

I do think it was a good choice by you to remove the picture and not just because the parent didn't okay it. I hope you don't remisnese with your nephew about how funny it was when he accidently knocked down Mickey, or tripped Goofy but I do hope your family remembers that they had a wonderful vacation :)

Okay, I commented before there was two different occasions mentioned. I just got a chuckle out of the first one because I assumed the child was that happy to see Mickey that he knocked him over giving him a hug or something.
I did not think it was funny Mickey was on the ground. I just got a chuckle about a kid being that excited.

Ditto and if I was standing there would probably have been one of the first to offer help.

...and I HATE it when parents are filming their kids doing something dangerous that they KNOW is going to hurt them and instead of protecting them, they are filming them hoping to get on TV and maybe win a few grand.

oh geesh, people lighten up. its funny because its real and it is out of the norm. im sure no one actually thinks people getting hurt is funny, but there is humor in life. americas funniest home videos built an entire show around it.

Well, I was amused and thought, an accident, then it was mentioned that earlier the kid had tripped goofy, not once but twice. All of a sudden it stopped being funny. This would be a child that was encouraged, if even by omission, that it would be just cute as the dickens to see how many characters one could nail.

The one accidental, OK...the cumulation of three...not so much. Did I read this whole thing wrong or can someone explain to me why this is worthy of our endorsement.

ok so apon further reading, youre right it seems the child was aiming, my comment was on the original post and picture.

Does this kind of thing happen often to your nephew? What I'm trying to say is...does he get in trouble often? For this to happen twice is quite an "accomplishment".

Some of the comments I will just ignore, since some people are passing judgements and making silly accusations or implying malice. You know who you are.

To you I will say he is a really good kid who got a little too excited after seeing the characters for the first time.

Wow, some people are being way too harsh. I'm sure it was completely accidental, even if it was *gasp* twice! :scared1: Haven't you ever done something stupid/silly twice on accident? I'm thinking that accidently tripping someone and running at them are really different anyway. Maybe Pluto just tripped on his foot while he was walking by? Kids get excited and get a little carried away sometimes. If this was all on purpose i'm sure it would be a different matter.

chat with dd4 and ds6 about not tackling the characterbtw I can totally see this hapening more than once to the same kid. everyday as I walk through the front door after work I have to brace myself cause I know my kids will come both running towards me and possibly topple me if I am not ready. again the excitement but of course I am not wearing a giant heavy costume.

Bull...this is a kid out of control. A kid that hasn't been taught to respect others and is encouraged to be just as excited as he wants regardless of the consequence to others. Is it the kids fault? Not at all. I don't think I have to look far to find the responsible parties. Once, accidentally, maybe! More than once...sorry, that's just not acceptable!

All the rest that want to not be alarmed that a person playing a character was knocked down and potentially harmed, go ahead...I choose not too!

Thank you very much for your comments as I was beggining to get a little dissapointed with our DIS friends. Everyone is entitled to their opinion of course, but when suddenly a 4 year old sweet little boy (everyone assumedd that the boy kneeling next to Mickey was the one who knocked him down)becomes the antichrist for accidents due to all the excitement around him, something was definitely loss in the communication. We certainly did appologize and try to help and kept him from running towards the characters after that. :flower3:

Yep you knew who you were. We have a winner.

Just curious, if it wasn't the boy kneeling next to Mickey that knocked him down, was it the little one on the left next to the lady?

popcorn:: popcorn::

People get so upset over the most interesting things.. Wish I could have seen the picture to see what the hub bub is all about.

1) Didn't know that getting autographs was a contact sport.
2) I hear they are thinking about hazard pay for characters.
3) Trying to land "correctly" could be tough in a bulky costume.
4) It is easy to get injured.

NOTE: Seriously though, it is up to the parents to make sure that children behave and do not hurt or injure characters. There is no such thing as an accident.

We did not get a regular picture with Mickey, since we were asked to leave,we left. We really did not want to get thrown out of the park specially since the kid had tripped goofy a couple of days before at MGM during the parade. I have a picture of that episode as well. I assure you it was not a conspiracy. But we were really careful from then on with characters.

Sure sounds like an out-of-control kid, and careless/thoughtless parent.
Repeated events show bad parenting and kids without teaching.

How are you seeing the picture!!! I want to make a comment because it seems this op is getting ripped to shreds for an innocent accident which in my opinion makes it very intimidating to go on these boards in the future. But again, I can not see the picture. What am I doing wrong?

in all fairness, you have to acknowledge that taking a schadenfreudean (?) photo was a bit much. when your kid does knock someone over, intentionally or not, the response should be to make sure the individual isn't hurt, not to seize it as a kodak moment for the enjoyment of those lurking the internet.

yes, of course the CM would be upset. someone was potentially injured (not likely and I'm not going to jump on that bandwagon) but service had to be interrupted and someone is snapping away photos of something they're quite aware wouldn't be part of any Disney press release.
