I really can't help but shake my head. Just saw the WDW announcement about FD now open to general public posted on a friend's FB wall. I could not believe how many people posted a reply to his wall out of excitement because they never stay on site so they can't get the dining, but now that it's open to the "general public" they can get it without staying on site AND get it free! And then... did they have to use all the FD in the parks or could they use them at their hotel(off-site)? Also, they hate how the parks prioritize resort guests by taking their food orders ahead of people who aren't on the DP -are you kidding me? WHAT?!?! :rotfl2::lmao:

I laughed and then wondered, since several of the people commenting were people I know, should I say something or just let them figure it out?

Many of them are annual or bi-annual park guests, so I am wondering where people, who I know for a fact frequent the 4 parks, come up with this stuff?

Well..you know..there are some people that DONT read the Dis Boards or have ever been to Disney before so they really dont know. I was as clueless as them at one point until I found these boards. Dont think just because you know everything that other people should too.

True. I knew absolutely nothing when I booked our first trip last year. Nothing. And neither did my TA thus finding this board proved very beneficial to me. :)

Wow, that's just too much to try and explain. :rotfl: Pick your favorite person off there and educate them. Tell them to pay it forward. :D

Oh my. Even before the DIS I did research on my vacations wherever they may be. Aren't you glad you (OP) are an informed, educated and savvy WDW patron? These stories make me so happy that I am. Love this!

I probably would have contributed a few pieces of misinformation to continue to feed the flames.

I would have corrected them all, but last thing you want is a lynch mob on you for shattering their precious dreams of off-site AND free dining. They'll live and learn. Just tell 'em to read the fine print, sit back, and enjoy.

How would staying offsite and free dining even work? I can't believe that people would think that.

Always post a link and leave. In this case I'd post the official FD details...in other cases I direct to 'Let Me Google That For You' (passive-aggressive reminder that it's not that hard to Google things instead of wasting your own and other's time by asking questions...including here on the Disboards...) and Snopes for obviously false rumors and chain posts.

I know we're supposed to give 'new people' the chance to be a little misinformed, but the amount of ignorance to the way things work in the posts the OP described is actually kind of dangerous. What happens when they contact a TA and attempt to book FD off-site? Who are they gonna blame when they find out they had it all wrong?

In this age of instant information, it's really kind of unacceptable for anyone to go into this kind of planning without researching.

I have family members who used to go to Disney regularly in the 80's and 90's who insist that when FP started you had to pay for it and that is why they stopped going to Disney......:confused3

Knowledge is power! Go forth and educate the masses! Or just leave a link for the Disboards! :rotfl:

Wow I love this :)

Honestly I would have done the same thing, live and learn right. Anyways most likely they prob would tell you that your wrong lol

You would have thought that WDW would give free food to people staying offsite?

And that there would be some way for CMs at restaurants to know who had the dining plan (before taking orders) to take their orders first?

I don't think you would have thought that.

OP that's just confusing.

My favorite is when the misinformed goes apes and belligerent when Disney won't honor what they think is fact.

"I showed up to WDW and couldn't believe Disney hadn't given me the free dining plan that THEY promised me and allow me to use it at my off site hotel's restaurant. I had to pay $8.99 for a piece of grilled chicken that my 3 year old threw to the ground!!! You would think that Disney of all people would understand what appeals to kids because what kid would eat that? I don't know how they stay in business and it's just ridiculous! I'm going to post reviews about this nonsense all over the Internet so people know just how horrible Disney is! We're never going back! Universal, Lego Land, Timbuktu for us next time!"

And if you're lucky, the rant rage is semi-coherent and semi-readable without popping a couple of Advils. :hyper:

True, but I don't think you need to be a Dis Board member to understand the free dining offer. It's posted on Disney's website, with enough detail for the average person to understand. Heck, it even says, "resort stay dining" in the website's URL: http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/special-offers/resort-stay-dining/ Heck, if you type in "disney fall free dining 2014" in Google, it's among the top 3 results.

I don't think you need to be an expert to plan a wonderful Disney vacation. I know I sure as heck wasn't when I planned my 1st Disney vacation as an adult, and I certainly didn't even know Dis existed back then. I think the important things are: ask questions. Lots of it. To reputable sources. Have an open mind and actually listen when people answer your questions. Research.

Does that include Hyatt "resort" or Wyndham "resort"? LMAO. I'm sure someone will try that!!

Yeah, it's interesting. For most of the people I know, "planning a trip" means requesting time off and booking plane tickets and a hotel. "Researching" means your friend asks their friend (who's been there) to recommend a good restaurant. Kinda hard to believe that in 2014, people don't know about tripadvisor, Frommer's guides, or Googling "visit Duluth". But, many don't.

I certainly have never claimed to know everything about Disney... I have been going annually for years and still learn something new all the time. My point was that all the people making these comments had to do was click on the highlighted link on that FB post to read the details instead & that when some people don't have facts, they will sometimes create a little fiction.
