I had really bad pain in one of my knees and was going to mention to the doctor during my next visit but somehow figured out that it was due to wearing cheap shoes! I need a shoe with a good arch and have a pair of SAS shoes on order ($150!). I started wearing an old pair of sneakers with good support and my knee is now free of pain...it was pretty bad.

Just wanted to share with people about how important good shoes are and if you are having knee or back problems, that may be the answer.

That's great advice. Unless you're eight years old and your feet are still growing, cheap shoes are just a bad idea. When you get to be over 40, it's an even worse idea. My last several pairs of shoes came from one of the specialty stores where they have people who really can offer some advice on what kind of shoe is best for you. My last pair of tennis shoes were $160, but they're worth it. If there's a concern about style, they look just like Nike or Adidas, or any of the other mainstream brands.

Yep. That's lesson I learned years ago. First thing I do when shopping for any shoe is to check the arch support. I also have a set of removable orthotics that I use when I buy a pair of shoes that are just too gorgeous to pass up. Slip in the orthotics and I'm good to go.

Yes. And it can't hurt to go to a REAL shoe store and stand on one of those machines where they check your arches and your weight distribution on your feet and all that. I did that earlier this year and once they gave me the proper kind of inserts that I needed, my feet and legs don't ache any more. I wear the inserts in GOOD pair of sneakers (I bought $150 New Balance sneakers and the inserts were $60, but the pain relief was priceless!) and my feet and legs feel so much better. They definitely made my recent Disney trips much more enjoyable.

I second getting decent shoes-it's made all the difference to me.Also, with knee pain,my chiropractor said that part of the problem with knee pain is that nobody stretches their inner thighs any more. It's all connected, and I've seen a big difference with that, too.
