Kmart removes "beyond inappropriate" costume after backlash

I would be uncomfortable dressing a child as a bride nor do I get that whole Tom Thumb/jr bride thingie but keep in mind I agonized for an entire day before buying one of my sons a Bicentennial pop gun from a gift shop at Colonial Williamsburg :lmao:.

You see, this is what massively annoys me about this whole PC culture. Too often, there's people getting offended at something that's completely innocent, and as someone from a country where the concept of 'child brides' are alien, all I see is a completely-innocent child's costume.

And many of us have fond memories of "playing bride" or even (heaven forbid) playing house as the wife and mother. I suppose that's a scandalous thing for girls to want to do these days but I certainly wouldn't discourage those options for my daughter - if I had one. It's all about freedom of choice nowadays, but perhaps George Orwell predicted it best when he wrote "Freedom is Slavery". :sad2:

I think the outrage is silly. A child wearing that costume is not pretending to be a "child bride" - she's playing at something she probably hopes to do when she grows up.

Children play/practice grown up events (like weddings) or jobs (teacher, firefighter, race car driver, chef...) in their play every day. It's normal, and healthy - and we need to stop taking normal, healthy things away from them (or we're just going to find they replace them with less healthy pastimes like more electronics.)

Well, yesterday, my DD & I had a conversation about how Oxford University students have voted to do jazz hands instead of clapping at all their events because clapping can be triggering.

So I guess you can add clapping.

And, for what it's worth, I saw the black jack o'lanterns as painted & decorated to look like skeletons.

I have a set of black flamingos in my yard right now w/ white skeletons painted on them to look like skeleton flamingos & the black pumpkins w/ white faces made me think of my skeleton flamingos... because it's Halloween.
I can’t even with the jazz hands. That seems like an April Fool’s joke or something. I can’t imagine an entire audience silently doing jazz hands all at once. 😂

Responding about the Halloween decoration in the McDonald's...
I think it's creepy and awful. I wonder if they didn't notice it at first, in with the tree? However... this McDonald's is about 20 miles from Salem, Mass. Maybe the decoration is a "halloween" decoration because of the whole Witch frenzy in Salem, and the perception that convicted witches were hanged? Not trying to defend the display, just trying to figure out who thought this was a Halloween idea in the first place.
