Well, here is this years offensive costume . . . I guess. Do not understand why this one created an uproar. I personally don't see the correlation people made with it, and why it garnered a removal from shelves and an apology by Kmart. My daughter had a play Doug & Melissa bride costume she specifically asked for when she was 5 years old. She loved it, along with her other pretend play costumes, and I saw nothing wrong with it. :confused3

Your thoughts?

Hmmm . . . While I agree with the points the person was making regarding child brides and child abuse, I would not have linked that to the Halloween costume. When I was a child I played dress up, and I liked emulating adults when it came to Halloween costumes. I can remember many makeshift bride outfits and would have loved having a costume like that. I guarantee if I had been a child when Prince Charles and Lady Diana married, I would have wanted to dress up like her as a bride for Halloween. I think it’s ok to find the one thing to be quite heinous, but not the other. But I respect her taking action when she believed that strongly about the issue. Whether or not such a campaign is successful, it does get people thinking and talking about things in the world that do need to be stopped.

Child marriage is a terrible thing but I don't see anything wrong with a child dressing up as a bride.

The Halloween costumes I dislike are the "slutty" or sexy ones where the female version of the costume is short and skimpy and revealing. Slutty pirate, sexy schoolgirl, slutty cop. etc. But I think a lot of women prefer to look as attractive as possible when they dress up in costume rather than just looking kooky or outlandish. And it certainly doesn't offend me.

I think problems occur when people get "offended" when they personally dislike something, and then because they're offended they think everyone else should be as well.

Like you, I don't see any correlation with that and a costume. In the same token is having my child dress as a pirate condoning being a thief? (and btw, she was a pirate one year and it was my favorite costume she ever had)

Oh, since Diana had a long train, the pillowcase didn't suffice. We used blankets to pretend play Princess Di. :p

Do you think she really felt that strong, finding correlation in a costume? Or was she attempting to create outrage where one really didn't exist? I have been taught with my previous career about looking for the signs for human trafficking. Not once did a child's costume exist as a warning sign. I just think she was reaching. YMMV.

In truth, I think it actually looks like a First Holy Communion outfit.

There are black and white varieties of real pumpkins. I think the black jack o’lanterns look neat.

Our KMART (Atlantic County NJ) is having a closing sale right now. They’ll be gone before Christmas.
