My mother and grandmother were firmly convinced that the quickest path to ptomaine poisoning was eating at a store lunch counter. I could hardly wait to get old enough to go downtown with my friends on Saturday and RISK.GETTING.PTOMAINE.POISONING. Yum....those BLT sandwiches and cokes poured over the shaved ice You could eat for about 50 cents (does that tell you how old I am?)
When I lived in NorCal, I loved having breakfast at the Kmart cafeteria. Could get scrambled eggs, hash browns, and toast for a deal of a price. I also enjoyed at times their blue raspberry ices. They did have good fries as someone else said and I'd sometimes get that with a grilled cheese. My Grandma and I enjoyed dining there sometimes together
Kmart closest to me now does have a food area. I have never eaten there.
I remember our K-Mart had an eating area/snack bar several years ago, then when they remodeled they took it out. The store actually closed about a month ago. We've had Wal-Mart here for years, but then a year ago Meijer came in too and K-Mart just couldn't make a go of it after that.
When I was a child there was a store called Newberry's in a neighboring town, and I remember they had a restaurant there but I don't recall ever eating there.
