When my kitten is "finished," he plops himself out of the little box & takes off running. Behind him, he leaves a kitty litter trail! Is there something I can do to keep the kitter in the BOX? I know a few straggly pieces are bound to happen, but this is a disaster!! I find myself dust-mopping HIS room at least once a day!!

Not really. I keep and dustpan and hand broom next to each litter box and sweep it up daily when I'm scooping the box. I have a little plastic mat in front of the box, but it doesn't catch it all. Plus, my boys tend to bound out of the box like clowns being shot out of a cannon. LOL

We put the green indoor/outdoor carpet around our litterbox so it kind of "combs" the litter off their paws (especially the long haired one) and traps the litter in the carpet.

OMG! My kitty takes off running across the room, too. I thought it was just her. Like, after taking a dump, she now feels so free or something.

we have a plastic mat around our cat's too and he still leaves litter everywhere!! just gotta sweep it up everyday...it's a pain but I've done all I can to to try and catch it and he still manages to string it all over..lol

I think they are running before they get a wiff :rotfl2:

I did something like this. It's more like a grate/pan that I set right outside of her box. Collects about 80% of her fall-out. Plus I keep a hand held wet/dry vac right next to the box.

Mine does this as well, drives me insane. I bought a litter mat at Target and it did no good at all. I bought a small bathroom rug at Dollar General and it works perfectly, just have to take it outside and shake it out daily.

ooh- this one & the bathroom rug around the box are good ideas- i never thought about a little kitty mat!! thanks, guys!:upsidedow

Just beware that a bathroom rug is likely to get shredded at some point. Make sure its not a good one.

I changed to the Tidy Cats Breeze system. It's got larger pellets...there are still a few strays, but it's not near the mess the traditional scoopable litter was.
