Hi all...we're closing on our house on Wednesday! :teeth:

Anyway...I am thinking about decorating and such now, and the hardest room for me to figure out is the kitchen. We will not be changing anything major right now, but I'd like to paint and add curtains, maybe some complimentary accessories.

SO, here's what we've got...(this we cannot change, except for possible painting the cabinets):

White cabinets
Black granite tile counters...I'm not crazy about the black, but someday we'll change it to something else.
The floor...off-white tile.
All of the appliances are white.

I like country, traditional, beachy, and nautical elements, but I think I want to stick to a county feel here...the best I've come up with, to compliment both the black counters and all the white, would be sunny yellow walls, and maybe black toille curtains.

Any other ideas or advice? These black counters are killing me!

You don't have to use black as an accent. I have black granite counter tops - light/natural oak cabinets. The black granite is just another neutral like your white cabinets. My walls were a DEEP Basil Green with Paprika accents - we just painted to a sunny yellow with paprika accents.

The white cabinets allow you to do whatever color you want - you can do a country blue, a sunny yellow, a musky green etc. The accent with a different color. If you do blue you can accent with yellow or peach- if you do yellow you can accent with blue, green or paprika. You could even do a dark color with those light cabinets like the paprika or the basil color I had.

Thanks Mare. I was almost afraid to do yellow and blue together with the black counters. But now I might try it!

Thanks for the link, Ilovepcot!

How about red walls-like cinnabar not apple.

Remember, you can also paint the cabinets to change the look too. WHen we moved in our kitchen had the yellow-type pickled cabinets, with formica that was in that same tone, and the direct kitchen walls were painted to match. Over the sink was a large pass through with three inch plantation shutters that overlooked the great room and straight ahead 6 floor to ceiling windows overlooking our wooded property and lake. Each afternoon the sun would hit the lake and reflect into the rooms, bouncing off all that off white and blinding you. First thing I did was paint the kitchen walls deep gold and olive green, eventually I painted the cabinets biscuit and we now have green slate tile on the counters and brown/black granite (Tropic Brown)on the island. Much warmer now. Breakfast wallpaper is a gold leather/olive marble look with border that has a Tuscany feel.

I second the yellow/blue toile idea. Lately I've seen lovely new toile combos out there. Another option would be a gingham check for the window treatments if you're still thinking country.
