Kitchen countertops

We chose a Cambria Quartz because I wanted a large island and granite slabs wouldn’t have been long enough. With the quartz we were able to have the exact size we wanted with no seams and that’s what ultimately drove our decision. It’s really beautiful and looks like granite.

Yeah, I was surprised that my daughter's entry level house had granite counter tops.
That has been our experience as well. Quartz is made by grinding up the material and using some type of epoxy to make the slabs. Much of this is a matter of personal preference as well as budget.

I think because granite is considered a selling point most people assume it’s more expensive than other products like quartz or solid surface, but that’s not usually the case anymore (unless you’re selecting an exotic/rare granite). A basic granite can be half the price of quartz and yet for some reason people always read “granite” in a listing and think it’s higher end.

We recently renovated our new home and wanted quartz or recycled glass (which is what we wound up going with). Every salesperson at every store told us “well, granite would be your cheapest option” and walked us through the slabs to see if we liked anything.

Our granite was sealed before it was installed. I asked about re-sealing and they seemed to say we didn’t need to worry about it. Ours looks as nice as the day it was installed, too, and we haven’t done any additional sealing. I only clean it with soap and water, and once in a blue moon, Windex, but only if something greasy gets on it.
