Kitchen Cannister Sets

I have tupperware canisters in my cupboard.

My mom always had canisters. She had pink metallic ones in the 60's, red mushroom themed ones in the 70's, and then blue ceramic after that. I found the old pink metallic one that said "tea" on it and have it on my counter.
My stepmom had the mushroom ones!

Sugar and flour are in the cabinet or pantry in ziploc bags. I do have utensils in a decorative container as drawer space is limited. I have two clear jars on the counter that hold nuts or trail mix for the kids to snack on. Other than that I wish the junk would go.

I have storage containers like these on the counter. One has sugar, one has packets of Equal (well, Walmart brand of aspartame), and a third with coarse sea salt. I had a fourth for flour, but stopped using it a while back. Flour is now stored in generic Tupperware container on the lazy Susan in the lower corner cabinet.

I had a lovely Pfaltzgraff full set of dishes, servers and the canisters that I just loved. But, like you, I found the canisters were more taking up space (although looking wonderful!) than being useful. I put them in the basement just to see how it would be. And there they stay.

I do need to say, though, that nature abhors a vacuum. I now have other stuff that's taken its place (it's been a number of years, but there you go).

I have three of these. They hold about two cups or a bit more. One for sugar, one for powered creamer, and one for sea salt. The sugar and creamer are with the coffee pot and the salt by the stove.

I asked for canisters one year for Christmas. MIL tried to find me some and she did, sort of. The are kind of small. they did have coffee and tea in them but now I am shopping at Sam's and need bigger ones.

Target has some rather large clear jars for canisters and I think I will go get 2 of the biggest ones for 10 lbs of sugar and flour and 2 smaller ones for the big bags of coffee and tea bags that I buy. I like the large canisters of things I use being at my fingertips when cooking.

I have Tupperware ones on my counter, containing flour, sugar, and tea bags. I have another set that I keep in the pantry that has dry cat food, cat snacks, and a few oddball things in them. I have a set of my great grandmothers, which are Mother of Pearl. They are placed on top of my cabinets as decorator pieces. They are a very old, very pretty set. It has smaller spice jars to match the set. There are even vinegar and oil cruets to match, and a salt box that has a wooden cover(no one I know has EVER used a salt box, lol). I would never part with that set willingly, nor would I use it as an every day canister set.

Mine are 40 year old green Tupperware. They hold flour and white sugar and I keep them in a cabinet. Brown sugar is in the refrigerator.

Wait! Brown suger in refrigerator???? I assume this keeps it from getting hard. Does this work? Why did nobody tell me this? For 50+ years I've been getting stupid advice about all kinds of worthless crap, and you've all been holding back the good stuff.

I buy a big bag of it at Sam's and it comes in a zipper bag. I put the bag in a plastic container with a good lid. Zip it up and then shut the container. I bought the bag about 3 months ago and its nice and soft. I have also poured it loose into the container and put a piece of fresh bread on top. This keeps it soft too.

I just don't have room in my fridge for anything else.

I cook from scratch frequently and go through a lot of flour and sugar, they are purchased in multiples (or sometimes in bulk if the price is right) and kept in the original packaging inside tupperware containers in my pantry and regularly rotated. I dislike the look of cluttered countertops, I don't even like to have appliances out. When I owned my own home I had a cabinet that served as an appliance garage; the microwave, coffeemaker, and toaster had their own shelves and were kept plugged in inside the cabinet (because they are our most used appliances), everything else was just stored in there. I miss being able to close a door to hide the mess of appliances and wires!

I have a few things out but that is mainly because I don't have the cabinet space to hold them. If I had a pantry that's where they would be.

I put mine in an airtight container in the freezer. They also make terra cotta discs to toss in the container to keep brown sugar from hardening, you can buy some containers with a slot built in for it. These methods work because they help keep the moisture in.

I miss having an appliance garage. Just wouldn’t work with this kitchen so I keep my gadgets in the pantry and various cabinets.

Not on my counter.
I have 2 sets though......one is ceramic and is in the pantry holding different candies (cinnamon chips, etc) for baking
The other is tupperware (they were my mothers) and they contain different kinds of flours and the smallest has quinoa in it.
I keep all purpase flour, sugar in large plastic containers

I keep mine in the cupboard. It's an avocado green metal set that I got for a wedding present in 1971.

I had canisters on the counter in my old house. I have much less counter space in my new house so the stuff that was in the canisters is now in Tupperware in the pantry or baking station

I bake a lot... I have a set of 4 brown metal canisters in a rooster design, containing flour, sugar, coffee beans, and stevia packets.

Flanking the stove are two wooden canisters containing wooden utensils and plastic/silicon utensils.

We have a stainless steel one that matches our appliances. We use it for sugar, flour and coffee beans.
