What a delightful movie! The girls and I decided at the last minute to stop and see it and am I glad we did. The theater was not even remotely full :( , everyone there was female too! I noticed when we went to leave that there was a large group of girls in the back all with their dolls :) I hopethat it does well because it truly was a nice old fashioned movie. Good story of the depression too, and Will Smith's daughter Willow is adorable!

Thank you, this is good to know. I want to see this with my dd this weekend.

Thank you for your post. We can't wait to see it and our youngest dd8 wants to bring Josephina with her. :)

We saw it yesterday too- DD 7 was almost as excited as I was to see it ;)
We enjoyed it very much. Our theater was also surprisingly empty- there were maybe 25 people. We saw several girls with their dolls, including DD who brought Kit with her- the man who sold us our tickets teased her about paying for Kit's ticket :rotfl:

My DD is so excited to see this. She has informed me that Felicity needs to see it also so we will be bringing her doll! It's a rainy day today, but I am not sure I want to take my 3 year old.

Glad it is good! I thought Felicity's movie was well done, but I haven't seen the others.

My daughter and I We thought it was a really great family movie.

DD 6.5 and I (and her AG doll) also enjoyed it! :thumbsup2

It deviated a bit from the books, which we just completed reading. But the changes that they made helped to structure the plot and move things forward nicely in this new format. We had a semi full theatre. I do hope that this movie makes enough money to stay in theatres for a little:goodvibes while.

We are having oldest DD 7th birthday party at the Movies on Saturday to see the movie. All 14 girls are bringing there dolls, My dd can't decide who to bring with her yet, but dd4 is bringing her Kit. I hope all the girls enjoy it as much as you all did, its so nice to see a wholesome movie:)

that's the keyword I was trying for, wholesome. No girls trying too hard to grow up too fast.

Thank goodness!! I am ready for something my little girl can watch without cringing! We are so movie-picky! She's 5, but we just bought the first Samantha book and the first Kit. I think this is going to be a great thing for girls in our culture-too much out there already that is NOT role model material!;)

Is the movie something that would hold the attention of a 4.5 year old? I want to take my DD that will turn 7 in a few weeks with some friends for her birthday, but wanted to take little sis along too.

I think that it'll hold her attention pretty well. The plot is not super complex, it's a teeny bit sad (seeing friends home foreclosed, then realizing things are bad at her own home.) THere are animals to hold attention (dog, monkey toward the end), and the story is pretty easy to follow.

We went the other day with my three girls and my friend and her three girls and I did like the movie, but it was very sad and depressing at times, as it is set in the depression era. I cried like three times. But, it did end on a happier, positive note.

Yep the girls caught me crying too!

Was hoping to see this morning but when we asked my oldest daughter (10) she said she didn't want to see it and I was surprised, she just mentioned earlier this week that she did want to see it. Hubby even wanted to see it cuz he likes Abigail(sp?) but when our daughter said she didn't want to see it they instead went to see Hancock(which they liked). So, I thought I'd go with my youngest (3) but I didn't think it would hold her attention so we oppted to go to the 4th of July parade that was right next to the movie theater where hubby and oldest daugther saw their movie.

Looks like I'll have to wait til it comes out on DvD to see it. I agree, that it's about time they started making good old fashioned movies like this again. This movie kinda puts me in the mind of the way Annie was done. I hope it does well too so that Hollywood will make more.

My two daughters (ages 3 and just turned 8) and I went to see this movie today on a very rainy 4th of July in our area. We all really enjoyed the movie!

I was not sure how well my 3 year old would do, but she did just fine. Tomorrow my older daughter and I are off to the AG store in New York, so we are kinda having an AG themed holiday around here - how fun:goodvibes

My 12 yr old granddaughter is still into the AG dolls (she hides it from her girlfriends though, lest they think she's still a "baby". LOL Poor dear.).

I'm wondering if she's too old for the movie......but we're gonna go see it sometime soon. It'll make a nice gramma/granddaughter date.
Anyone taken a preteen and if so how did they like it?

My daughter will be 12 next month and we just went to see the movie. She liked it very much.

My 5.5yo and I went to see it yesterday - we both cried a couple times, and we both LOVED it! :lovestruc
