I found this idea on the wedding wire forums and I thought I would share it here.

The kiss before the first kiss is a way to honor your mothers. The officiant invites the bride and groom's mother up to stand by there respective children. Here is the wording I found online. It can stand to be slightly modified. The officiant then says the following:

Minister: The mother’s of the bride and groom will now come forward as we honor them as mothers and to help us with the next part of the ceremony.

Both mother’s come forward and stand next to their child.

And now Ladies and Gentlemen, it is time for _______ and _______’s last kiss as singles before they become wife and husband. __(Bride)__ and her mother, __(Brides’ mother)__ and __(Groom)__ and his mother __(Groom’s mother)__, will now offer this kiss.

These mother’s their lips were the first to kiss them and bring them into this world and today a mother’s love – together with their blessings – will be first to send them on their way to their new life together as wife and husband.

Mothers. . . please kiss the Bride and Groom!

I think this would be wonderfully touching. We are definitely going to do it...well I have to ask greg first but I already asked my mom and she is more than willing to participate.

what do you think?

I've been lurking here forever, and I just had to comment on this. My wedding is over a year away and we haven't decided on anything, although I'm hoping for a Disney wedding. Both DF and I only have our mothers in our lives. This is an amazing way to bring them into the ceremony and honor them. Thank you so much for sharing this!

My daughter was just married on November 5th at the Grand Floridian Wedding Pavillion and I love this idea. Actually love it so much that it brings tears to my eyes. I am such a emotional person anyway, but would have loved to have had this as part of my daughter's wedding ceremony. Now mind you, I would have cried through the whole thing, but none the less, love this idea :) Thanks for sharing.

As the mom of a young woman who is in a long term relationship, and myself have been married many years. I think this is very touching. I have always thought Mom's should be part of the ceremony. I actually wanted to have both my parents walk me down the isle, but 29 years ago that was unheard, atleast in my neck of the woods. :) Thank you for sharing.
