this is such a ridiculous post, even I can't stop laughing at how silly this is, but I'm desperate:

I can't seem to measure this right - one day its too weak and the next day its too strong. One the days I get it just right, its magical. I have a Bunn coffee make, and I make 6 cups in the morning which measures out to 32 oz. Also, do you use a regular tablespoon or a scooper? Please. I need help.

I have a Mickey Mouse coffee scoop that measures two tablespoons per scoop. I put in one scoop for every 6 oz cup, for 6 cups/6 scoops. If you err on the side of "too strong" at least you can fix it. ;)

I don't normally get Kirkland coffee, and I'd get whole bean and grind it myself but I can't imagine it varies that much from brand to brand(as long as we're dealing with premium brands.)

I recently discovered this bag - they say its Starbucks and i think it is - it has that taste to it which I like. I shall follow your "recipe" tomorrow morning. thank you.

That's the way I make coffee also, like Ron does. And yes, Kirkland coffee is roasted and prepared by Starbucks. Almost anything that is branded Kirkland is excellent.

What are the guidelines on the bag? Most coffee scoops are calibrated specifically for their machines, but if your machine didn't come with a scoop, use a standard tablespoon.

A "cup" of coffee is defined as 6oz. So, you are making 5.3 cups. Usually it is one heaping tablespoon per cup of coffee.

Right - I think that's where the problem is and why I can't get it right - on my Bunn carafe I make six cups, so today I filled it up using a measuring and it came out to 32 oz and the 6 cup line mark.
Hmmmmm I'm going to check amazon or Bunn to see if they have their own scoop.

thank you. (this is so silly) LOLOLOLOL

Hmm. If you are putting in 32 oz of water, you are not getting six 6oz cups of coffee. A fair amount of water is "lost" in the brewing process to evaporation and residual left in the coffee grounds. You are probably getting more like 5 cups of finished coffee. Try measuring the grounds like it is for 5 cups of coffee, not 6.

Very important - use 2 tablespoons of coffee grounds for every 6 ounces of water. And err of the side of stronger coffee. Nobody likes lukewarm cardboard water.

32 divided by 6 is 5.333333333333333......

5.33333333333... times 2 is 10.66666666666666666666.....

I'd go with 11 tablespoons of coffee grounds or a scant 3/4 cup.

It really depends on the grind of the coffee, though. For a super coarse grind, that would be okay, but for a fine grind (I use Peet's and it's like powder), that would be a horribly strong cup of coffee. I am not familiar with the grind of Kirkland bagged coffee, but I can't stand Starbucks and they make it for them, so I've never bought it.

I use a 14oz mug (so a little over 2 cups). I use 3 level tablespoons of my coffee for that and it's still very strong. If I used twice that amount, it would be undrinkable.

Okay, so I make what I think is the perfect cup of coffee every morning. I have a Ninja coffee maker. I start with just over 2.5 cups of cold water (which is about half of the “tank”). My coffee scoop is one tablespoon. I use six generous scoops for one 16 ounce thermal tumbler of coffee. I like a fairly strong cup of coffee and this formula works every time.

Good luck!

A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away when I used to actually work in an office, I'd buy Kirkland's coffee for my staff because it comes in giant put-ups and isn't too expensive and there's about a bagillion people on my team. The coffee is not fancy just arabica, the roast is medium and the grind is medium, very little risk of strong coffee.....

I used to have this issue too, then I started weighing the coffee. Once I hit that perfect flavor, I knew exactly how much to use. Seriously, a kitchen scale has been one of the best purchases I've made in years!

I weigh so much stuff! Love my kitchen scale. I only weigh dry ingredients when baking now. No use for measuring cups anymore.
