I am planning to shop at Kino sandals in Key West. Is there any way to ship the sandals home, rather than carry them with me? I am planning to buy several pair for others, as souvenirs. Will they ship for me? Will it cost $5 a pair, like on their web site? Or is there somewhere else in town, open on Sunday, where I can ship a package?

Anyone know? Shirley? THanks!

Hi, When we went to Kino's they were CLOSED on Sunday. I was planning on shipping them home and was told that it was really cheap to do so. Check before you go to make sure that they will be open.

:confused3

Was the factory closed, or the factory AND the store? Could you at least purchase them?

Just called...the recording said Sundays are seasonal. Will have to call during the week and find out. Will be very disappointed if they are not open!!

I have been going to the Kino sandal shop since I was a little girl.
If you have never been there, it might be quite different than you expect.

To answer your question, no they won't ship your shoes back for you. (I don't think anyway! )This is a "warehouse" operation....in fact the service counter overlooks the "workroom floor" so to speak so you actually see the areas where the shoes are manufactured. I don't know really how else to describe it except maybe a mom-and-pop type operation.

IIRC the shoes don't cost $5...more like $10 per pair. Last time I was there was in '06 but a quick glance at their website shows $11/pair for ladies and that's about right. A few things to expect....you walk in to the open-air shop and there is a long u-shaped counter. On this counter one example of each shoe style is displayed. You show the one you like to the attendants behind the counter and they will retrieve the selected pair in the proper size from a bin behind the counter. Not all styles, sizes and colors may be available, but don't hesitate to ask if the one you want is being "currently manufactured" as they always seem to find just what I am looking for in the back being sewn...:goodvibes It is usually very busy and kindof a madhouse, keep that in mind and maybe it won't seem as "bad" if you expect it. Also their hours are limited, they usually close by 4 pm or possibly even earlier.

Shipping options.....there is a US post office in Key West (don't recall exactly where) and though it obviously won't be open on Sunday...if you bring your boxes pre labeled, with pre paid postage (click-n-ship is great) you can just fill the boxes and put them in the drop box. That's one option. There may be pack-n-send's or UPS stores around......I'm not sure. Also Kino sandals are pretty flat and extremely lightweight....unless you are buiyng a *whole bunch* of pairs you may not have a problem taking them back on the ship and just bringing them home with you. Its something to consider anyway.

Hope that info helps you out some!! I miss KW a lot, we are going on an alternate Western and won't be stopping there.....:guilty: So I'm jealous! ;)

Enjoy your cruise!!!!:thumbsup2

I was referring to the shipping being $5 per pair on the website, not the sandals. Thanks for the great info! Just hoping they are open on Sunday, April 6!!!

The factory and the store are one and the same!:goodvibes

I'm suprised about the Sundays...but then again on our last trip down there camping it was closed the first time we checked and we had to come back the next day. That might have been a Sunday. That was in April of '06......:confused3

I had heard that the store might be open on Sunday, but they would not be actually making sandals...perhaps not closed, just not in operation! TA

ANyone have a pic of these? I'd love to see what they look like...thanks

We stopped by around 3:00pm when we were there on our December Western and they were closed. A fellow DISer on the same cruise went right after getting off the ship (12:30 or so) and they were open. So...if you don't have specific hours before you get to Key West make sure you go there first to, hopefully, find them open.

Kino's sandels is like old Key West use to be - Siesta time l-)on Sundays.
Here is the website - now Norm and I are going down next month and if you want me to pick up some for you, will be glad to do so - just drop me an email.

Thanks, Shirley! I will call them tomorrow and see if they plan to be open on April 6. If not, I may take you up on that! You are so good to us! TA

I talked to someone at Kino's today. The official word is when cruise ships are in, they open on Sunday at 10. If business is good, they stay open till 3. If it gets slow, they close early. She suggests coming there first.
Thanks for all the responses!!

are they comfortable?

Oh yes, very.
They don't even need "broken in".
My only complaint (If you can call it that cause I have about 10 pairs of these and I really like them) is the rubber sole is pretty thin. It doesn't waer through or anything they are just thin and don't provide much support for long stretches of walking or on rocky or uneven terrain.
The good thing about them.....they last for-ev-er! The rope between the toes gets dirty but they will not fall apart!!!!:thumbsup2
